hey hey. i am interested in converting my 95 lux.
has anyone had the v6 commodore conversion done? if so how much did it cost. if i used the kit from this site www.v6conversions.com.au would it be expensive to get installed.

im just hoping its cheaper then a sr20 or 1uz conversion. (around 10k)

also what model commodore should i use. with manual trans. there is shitloads of modles. is there any that are better then the rest. and also what series as far as im aware there is 1 and 2.....

i'm in the process of getting it done, so far it has cost me 6 grand and that's getting done through my cousin who is a qualified mechanic

except mine is a 4wd not a 2wd

dont take this in a bad way anyone but my m8 had it done and even he said it was a bucket of shit with a 3.8 in her if ya goin to do anythin 1uz or sr like everyone or if ya want some thing diff and u got the money to spend y not drop a rb25/26 in her its sure to go fast...

pre-vr is easier cos u don't gotta worry bout bcm or security but vn motor is older than 95 lux so a lot more engineering for compliance (read: cost) is involved.
after buying a complete vr wreck and crown brakes it cost me under a grand to drive out of my back yard 3 weeks after i drove in. all done myself except mod plate (and my missus put the old motor on the tray while i was at work lol). relatively simple except setting up bcm was a steep learning curve.
but my lux i 20 years older than yours so i'm sure it couldn't be that cheap n easy.

since an rb30 can fit in a vl commo does that mean i could get one into my lux??

i have a vr v6 in my,
ill give you the car for 7,
only 130000 on it, less on engine haha
its 4wd but hah

Known issues with constant overheating etc.

Go the 3RZ conversion, similar power, almost direct bolt in, much better bang for buck, no conversion kits needed etc etc etc.

sif over heats. I hung 1 skid that took 2 load rated tyres from almost new too belts hanging out, and didnt get hot!!, + as if the 3rz's go as hard, I had a ls1 ss commodore at the ute at the same time, both the same speed, 14.4? from memory, Ended up selling the ss because it never got driven, Loads of fun with a v6, now i have a rzn149 with the 3rz, its heaps++ slower

I was talking in regards to 4x4, no indication was given as to what drive capabilities the hilux had.

Hence, my quoted comment about V6 Conversions in 4x4 Hilux's still stand.

i dont know why people pay 6gs to put a v6 in a hilux when you can do it yourself if you have half a brain and some basic skills

everything costs money?

the exhaust in a 2wd is a prick of a job, thermo fans, bcm simulator, sump/engine mounts, gearbox mounts, efi gear-> low/high pressure pumps/surge tank efi hose, air intake, heaps of wiring? relays? dash? the hilux speedo is cable, commodore is electronic pulse, new tail shaft, LSD or full spool,, etc etc etc,

clearly never done a conversion your self?

nah i havent but my brothers done a couple and you dont need half the wiring loom if you do it the right way

x2 to liljohn.
no way a commonwhore conversion should be expensive if u can do it yourself.
no need to pay for someone else's thinking n labour.
just gotta be a bit lateral to sort out niggly things like bcm and speedo drive.
it's not rocket science, just an engine conversion that doesn't just bolt straight in.

lockdog, if u are handy with a welder and multimeter then i'm sure u can duplicate most of the kit parts yourself for a fraction of the cost.

also running stock hilux radiator with thermo and never overheated.
