Dont even bother with the 253.

If anything, go for the 1uz or 308 or the injected 304.

Would have to be the injected 304.

253 is a fail motor a 12a rotor would perform better lol

legal yes i have seen many hiluxs fitted with 308s etc all comes down to it being done properly 253s are suprisingly not as bad as everyone think i find they rev bit harder than 308 but again it all comes down to preference thumbsup.gif

a 253 is too old to be legally put into a hilux, the donnor engine needs to be out of a car that was made in the same year or newer

you would have to go for the 1uz or 304, the 1uz would be the best pic, although its only a 4L it has quad over head cams and an alloy block where as the 304 is cast iron block

You just said it 308 / 304, not a 253

Interesting...

I thought the last of the 308's was 1984?

^^ Correct. 308 became the 304 due to Group A changes in '84 where engine capacity HAD to be under 5000cc. 308 is over 5000cc and the Ford 302 was legal.

253 is legal if converted to straight gas however with all the cost involved, it would be a much wiser option to fit in the 1UZ from the lexus. Kits are available to put straight in and would give more power and better fuel economy than any holden peice of crap holden V8 could ever offer. Sorry if offensive but the 1UZ is just a much better peice of equipment and you can get a whole half cut for under $2k.
