Whats the pros and cons with using a pod filter rather then the normal airbox?

Possible 3-4KW gain............ and a more audible induction noise...

Engine bay will look "cooler" for your mates to see?

Yea a pod filter will spool your invisible turbos.

It just makes a lame sucking noise, its not cool you will be over it in 15minutes.

Just get a good quality K N panel filter it will give you more of a gain, the pod will most likely loose you power cause it will be sitting there sucking hit air, unless you make a box around it but hey then you could just buy a panel filter and stick it in...............wait cool.gif

Pod filter in an enclosed airbox = win
or get a k&n panel filter in a std airbox

pod filter on its own in a hot engine bay without cold air feed, has little to no benefit

how about a Cold Air Intake kit?

Winner,

Tis what ive got "shown below"

IPB Image
Mine sits down in the guard where it will have positive effects because its not positioned near the hot engine bay.

Works well, and doesnt really get as dirty as you'd think it would.

Win.

Pod filters are such a wank. A decent K&N panel filter does a better job.

Yes, totally. rolleyes.gif

The puddle will need to be fucking huge to submerge it. Note that my car isnt dumped to the shit because I do like driveablilty.

Ive driven in heavy as fuck rain for over an hour.
I checked the pod when i got home because I was concerned that it would have got wet.
Jacked it up, it wasnt even slightly damp. The pod itself was nice and cold and the piping directly off the pod was nice and cold aswell.
The splash guard has slots from factory so water doesnt pool there either.

And if I ever feel that my engine is going to get water logged I can just take the bottom half off and run it has a sri since its a 2piece intake.

Depends upon the rest of the intake setup. Water won't go straight through the filter without hindrance, and an engine won't create enough of a vacuum to suck water straight up a 2-3inch pipe. Hell if the filter gets wet you might even get a basic water injection effect.
I'd be more worried about the filter getting damaged by debris. Some appropriately placed mesh would sort that out.

OT: Pod filters are a complete waste of money without some sort of airbox or CAI. I still think they're pretty much a waste of money regardless.

thats what mine looks like and yea doesnt do anything
its just for wank factor

Waste of time, you will NOT gain any noticeable power from it unless your pulling big kWs. You'll probably lose power on a stock car because you'll be sucking in more heat.

TLDR; dont even bother.

Do it for the sound and nothing else, because you are not going to notice any gains.

Its been scientifically proven that fitting a pod filter improves your street cred by 15/20%

i think its actually more like 30% but yea
up go the street cred points smile.gif

Having a pod filter in a air box set up with a cold air feed would be better than a panel filter in the stock air box, will it not?
I believe a pod filter can suck nearly twice as much air as a panel filter, but I guess its a matter of how much air can you engine actually use, however, breathing easier is better right?

blacky83

I don't think you'll really find that much difference between a pod filter in the airbox, and standard panel filter within the airbox. The filter material would be the same, and the surface area would be comparable.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought the real benefit of pod filters was the ease of fitting them to modified intakes. Eg, you're increasing the diameter of all your intake piping, manifold, etc for allow more airflow gains. The stock airbox then becomes the biggest restriction, and is hard to modify. Enter a pod filter, directly onto the end of a pipe, no more restriction.

I'd be happy to be proven wrong, but I think the filter is not going to be the biggest restriction on airflow, regardless of what type.

Whats the point in having a pod filter near the road exactly? You may as well have it in your engine bay. You do know the road is hot. You do know, its sucking air up closest to the road, which, could be HOT AIR.

Pod filters, anywhere. Is just for the wank factor. Get a decent panel filter. little to no gains having a pod filter, anywhere.

If you install a pod filter properly there is an advantage over a Panel Filter.
Ie. Box it up completely have extra air going to it from a front bar vent etc.

Here's a Panel Filter setup for maximum usage smile.gif

I have a panel filter on my SR20DE in the s15, and where the factory intercooler piping runs in the turbo models i have intake piping from the front bar running directly into the airbox. Forced air into airbox with a top fuel panel filter = win.

I noticed slight throttle response gain and idling alot more nicer compared to the pod that WAS on, from the last owner.

An exposed pod filter is going to do next to nothing, if not cause a lack of power from sucking in hot air. So it will need to be shielded to provide any benefit.
The majority of kids that whack a pod on wont do this. They will however go about telling everyone how they feel the difference it's made and how much faster the car is. It's a placebo effect...

Geez, MOST forums prefer you to resurrect old posts rather than someone post the same topic/question whatever and have another thread running with essentially the same info.
Most of the boards I belong encourage user to do a search and go from there rather than have to carry 100 threads on the same topic.
And whats with the abuse? I've read the topic and in my experience people are being EXTREMELY close minded so I've added my 2cents.
What are you guys, snippy little forum police or something rolleyes.gif

No you're just a faggot and your 2 cents isn't wanted. This forum encourages users to search for answers to their questions, not search for old as questions that have already been answered, to answer again.
