No, i should have been a little clearer.

Purchase a VR 5L loom and it will plug into the harness in your engine bay.

Place the loom with the v6 where all holden v6's belong, at the dump.

im not sure if this is correct but ive heard its ether ur not allowed to put a newer motor in an older car or an older motor in a newer car dues to emissions or something like that but depends on how much the motor is and how much it would be to convert probably better to just buy a V8 vr-vs

DET20

Changing the crossmember is a piece of piss!

Commovr
Post #17

thats a ruff pricing

Commovr
Post #18

also just another thing
i was reading that the vr v6 has a 65 L fuel tank and the v8 has a 80 L tank is it worth changing to the 80 L tank and how much would that be to do so

or just leave it?

Cheers!

Ive done the same conversion smile.gif

Will need:

V8 crossmember
engine
gearbox
loom
ecu
manual pedalbox
tailshaft

Its all a bolt in job, the wiring loom is all plug and play. You dont need to modify anything.

Near the fusebox there are 3 plugs which plug into the engine loom. The engine loom from the v8 will plug into here.

Last plug is in the kickpanel near the ecu. The v8 engine loom will also plug in where the v6 plug was.

All thats needed is put in the v8 crossmember and then engine gearbox obviously.

Plug in the loom

Turn key

Dioxide about time someone came into this with a sensible answer. I did this with a mate a coupla years back, easy conversion.

OP - Let us know what condition the V6 is in, I got a luxy that needs a V6 conversion.

You wouldnt happen to be the Dioxide I met on the LS1 cruise btw?

Just buy a v8 commodore..... Its just not worth doing what you propose doing.

(effort and heartache required, not even considering the dollars).

If that was the case, then we would end up with a bunch of kids who have no idea on how to work on cars would we head_wall.gif

There is no effort or headache required as its simply a plug and play conversion and it works out quite cheap...

In my case:

I have a VP Wagon

It was a v6... Sold all the running gear out of it for $1500

Bought a VR V8 Calais for $2500

Sold the VR Calais Rolling Shell for $1000

= Free 5L Conversion smile.gif

I agree, its not a hugely hard conversion (esp for someone like yourself), but may be biting off more than he can chew when a v8 commodore would not be that much more expensive after selling a v6 = no stress.

dont forget if your running a/c you will have to re-route the piping and release gas....its not a hard job to change it over, but you are always better getting a complete v8 car, well thinking of resale value anyway.
