It's illegal on the street, but no where in this thread did he say it was a street car.... Would be retarded to lock it.
LOL you've obviously never driven a car with a locker if you don't know hwo it affects driveability.....

if you clean the gears well enough you can use body-filler instead of weld

its pretty tough stuff

can also be used to glue the axles back together when they snap

Being against lockers is a bit of a bandwagon at the moment, don't worry about it. Just don't drive one on the road if you care about legalities.
Weld as in the pic, but make sure you don't get any weld or slag on the crownwheel (the large gear that encompasses the spider gears in the middle)
The pic shows a fuckton of slag everywhere, its not necessary, you just need to weld up the joins between the 4 spider gears to stop them rotating on each other. Some people also weld bolts in the joins to strengthen the join.

the reason a locker is deemed illegal is because if you come to say a round about or a wet intersection the car can easily slide out, it is also a bitch to turn, specially when reversing in a tight area.

1.5 way and 2 way diff's are relatively cheap these days, unless it is a full budget track car i would recommend having one of these item's placed in the car. Or if you have something like a s14 you should have a look at getting the stock lsd shimmed (this is really all you would need if you are just learning to drift). That way you dont have to put up with a locker but its 1/3 of the price of a 2 way diff.

It all depends on wat car your driving. ive been driving a commodore for years with a locker and it loves it. no worries AT ALL turning in car parks (power steering). Great at high speed car is sooo much more stable.

Ive also driven a silvia with a locked diff and it was an absolute pig. when i turned tight slow corners the car would start bunny hopping sorta

Oh please God be more sarcasm... The irony would be too much.

OT: A welded diff behaves like a go karts diff (or lack of). An open wheel diff will not always kick out and is therefore unpredictable which in my eyes is more dangerous. Same as autos laugh.gif .
