Im just wondering about defects in Queensland.. im only on my red P's so i only have 4 points meaning im not real keen on losing one lol

jus out of curiosity i wanna know how the system works.. say if i have 3 defective components on my car (novelty horn, too low, cut exhaust), would i lose 3 points for that (one for each defect), or would i lose 1 point all up??

thanks guys!!

depends.. best to ring and check with your fine..

Sometimes each defect is 1 point.. but sometimes they dont take points off u for defects.. i know last defect notice i got was no points.. just to fix

whats an "accidental" defect

If it's on your car, and it's not legal it's your fault

i just thought it was

minor defect = 0 points

major defect = 1 point

pretty much man it comes down to wether the cop wants to be a hard ass or a nicer cop

on one side the cop can give u a defect notice for every single defect on individual so that would be 3points and $225 in fines(going on the 1 point $75 rule)

or the cop could be nice and give u one defect notice for all three on the one defect notice so 1 point $75

but also alot of people dont know bu u can be done on the same day for the same defects if not directed by police to drive the car home straight away,
if they want they can pull u over 100m downt he road and defect u again for the same things because "you choose to continue to drive a defective vehicle"
oh and by cut exhaust what do u mean, if u do not have a catalytic converter and the car came standard with one its a massive llike 10grand fine for removng a stock emission control device

its not a 10grand fine for that dude.

also if u get a defect and have 14 days to fix then u cant get defected within that 14 days, yes u continue to drive it but they dont expect u to be able to fix it on the spot.
it may be your daily so u cant or money issues or watever.

and its one point all up not one for each defect

I got done for 1 bald tyre and non-compliant steering wheel and he combined it to 1 point $75... But if he wanted to, he could've given me 2 points & $150

i heard the new rules are they dont just defect you now they take pics and the give you a court date not sure if this applys to minor defects or what the go is

Its all up to what kinda cop you get

I got a nice one and he gave me 1 point $75.. for No Cat, No muffler, cut Reo Bar for Intercooler, Oil catch can breathing to atmo, BOV, and screamer pipe.

i guess i was kinda lucky, ive fixed some things, except the exhust cause i love the sound of straight pipes.
i just never head around surfers or the spit, dont drive like an idiot and you'll be right

ive been fined for the gayest defects before... bent numberplate and no H pattern on gearstick... guess its just the luck of the draw.. on that day i was also fined for having my elbow on the windowsil - "limb protruding from a motorvehicle" lol

Tazla
Post #12

ooh ok kool sounds like i jus gotta hope i dont get a tight arse cop if i get pulled over..

an with the 'cut exhaust' thing.. i know its illegal to rip out the muffler.. so i was gonna jus cut the pipe where the pipe meets the muffler.. cos i dont wanna see the pipe out the back of the tray.. but i was told that your exhaust pipe can't stop less than 5 inches from the rear bumper :S

cheers

Yes you have 14 days to get the defect fix but you cannot keep driving it. I know this because it has happened to me. I was pulled over 3 days after my initial defect and told the cop that I had the car booked in to be fixed later that week. So im not sure where you are getting your facts from.

Also it IS a maximum fine of $10 000 for driving a car without a catalytic converter, whether anyone has received the maximum im not sure.

The idea of the 14 days is so that you have time to repair it. You will find though that in that 14 days you can only drive it to a place of repair or a place of inspection. Not to pick up your girlfriend at 1am, run down to the spit, cruise over to maccas to meet your mates etc etc.

Hope this helps

hahaha man seriously its not that bigger fine, its not like they really pick up on it anyways, i have no cat, and a screamer pipe biggrin.gif hope that helps with all this "global warming" anyways OT: you may get heaps of points taken off you or you may get none, it depends on the cop and what your getting defected for,

It is also subject to who writes the ticket too. I was defected in July for:

Driving Unregistered Vehicle - $150
Driving Uninsured Vehicle - $300
Driving with plates from another Vehicle - $150

Was booked by Dept Transport during RTB run by the cops.....because DOT wrote it out (not the cops) & I didn't act like a wanker trying to get out of it with excuses there were NO points issued. They did state though that if the Cops had written it up I would have been arse raped.

My plates are pretty much now on record for that one, so I'm now basically cop bait hence the reason you don't see the truck out & about.

Actually YOUR wrong.

Its 100% up to the officer, What ever he decides is what he can do.

He can fine you for each and every single defect, They can go into specific defects if they wish, or just fine you for "driving defective vehicle" which is the $75 and 1 point.

I've been fined for an oil leak and not battery seperate, 1 point each.

I've also been fined for a heap of stuff and only recieved the "driving defective vehicle"

It all comes down to how you act to the officer and what kind of mood he is in. It is DEFENTLY not a case of "YOUR ALL IDIOTS 100 DEFECTS IS STILL ONLY 1 POINT" head_wall.gif

Forgot to mention, No cat convertor is a BIG NO NO, Very very very very very expensive fine, and as already stated max is $10,000. Very obvious and very bad for mother nature.

If they wanted to be bastards, They could count stupid fucking gay "screamer pipes" under the same law, All exhaust gases must go through a cat convertor.
