I just personally used Auto Towing and Windscreen Repairs (who are already on the list) because the alternator in my Stazz has died and I had to move it to my new house. The guy is an absolute champion, very careful and thorough, and did me a fantastic deal. Overall good experience!

... thanks to the Good Auto Businesses thread. ^_^ ^_^

These all in the Hobart area? There is officially nobody in Launceston that does either paint touch-up, full respray, or panel beating thats not backed by an insurance comapny. if there is let me know because I've been to them all.

I recommend Steve Order Wreckers for any parts you need. They seem to specialise in Commo parts mainly.

cam_ae92
Post #19

Steve Orders does have a lot of commo parts but he's gotta be the most expensive wrecker around. don't act desperate for a part or you'll be much worse off. The cheapest wrecker that i've found in launny is the one at dover (past the race course), they arent the biggest wrecker around although they have a good variety and awesome prices. I'm not a fan of churchill park although they seem to be the most switched on, prices are high, very professional. Central wholesale have a good range of newer stuff and arent quite as dear as churchill park. Franks come across as being a little dodgey although prices are good and they don't mind you having a wander around the yard. Forster street is probably where i have spent most of my time, probably because they have a few ae92's, the blokes are good to talk to out there to and prices are reasonable.

Also in the first post Chris Atkins is listed. he hasn't been at hadspen for a couple of years now, i believe he has a servo at bridport.

Franks has been shut down for a while now but theres still bodies up the back.

I have a few other favorite places in launny although general i like to do my own work. in terms of wheels, tyres, alignments etc, beurepairers on york street have gotta be the best around. very friendly staff and good prices. i've been going back for years now, never had a prob.

for non-specialist type work i'd go to the old mobile servo in newnham, it has a new name now although its the one on the uni side of the road. They are very honest and good value. I have a few examples if need be! for more advanced stuff i would head towards beechy's although i only have limited experience with them so far.

as for paint, when i was learning to spray my car i was going to spectrum. i would literally be there for an hour receiving all kinds of advice from frenchy and his boss, this was before i was mates with frenchy to. the most helpful paintshop around!

serious! didn't know that. i havent been there for about 4 or 5 months. a lot of wreckers have closed down in the last few years. Deloraine and Mckenzie street we 2 of the best ones around.

i had nothing but trouble with my statesman and the service they did
my new fuel filter they fitted kept leaking and i lost a tank full of petrol
midas dev only want to take your money and then forget about the customer
so much for customer service

yep well have you heard about a 1700 dollar SR20 n/a head rebuild with standard specs?

thats what they did when my mate had a head gasket leak..

then the cams werent seated in properly, so my mate asked them to get some street cams from crow cams. (seeing as midas fucked the original ones).. so they got like race cams and it sounded like a rotary and were trying to charge him extra and wanted to charge him for a computer and everything .. so my mate forked out like 2 grand for a head rebuild when i shold have costed about a grand.

not to mention this all took 3 months to do..

It is now a United Servo, one of the very few not run by Indians. They have a very good rep for servicing cars at very good prices, still have driveway service and good prices in the shop too.

And just go there, it keeps my Father-in-law in money so he can spend it on my kids!! :P Yes, it's my wife's father who owns and runs the servo!

Cheers, Greg.

I think this is great. But there seam to be allot more Launceston/northern Tasmanian members lately.

You think we could have a Hobart selection and a Launceston Selection of places? As far as i can see their all Hobart. Or simply put Hob. or Laun. next to business name?

An while we're at it at Burnie/Devonport one and a St Helens/Bicheno one! Oh and maybe a Strahan one!

Phil Young Engine Reconditiong, years of experience from stockcars to turboed vehicles to trucks. He may be in the south of the state but will ever only do the work that is required for the result required. NEVER overcharge and NEVER carry out work that isn't needed, especially without consulting you first and the work carried out is always as if he is working on his own motor. IF the work isn't needed to be done then he WILL DEFINATELY let you know. I have had alot of work done over the years from him, the latest an all motor build with itb's which I probably saved approx 2500 in parts alone that I thought was required for the whole build. Alot of this also was uneccesary machine work (like knife edging the crank for example) and an uneccesary cost to the build which Phil was more than happy to point out and the reasons as to why. There's not alot of businesses out there that would back their own work to the extent that Phil does, definately old school and respectful. Need say no more.
