yeah saw that email too, haha

im kinda half way through rebuilding high CR big block 1.5L for my car anyways tongue.gif coming to QR winter '08......i hope, lol

That will be awesome biggrin.gif NA

The L20B for the 1600 got dropped off yesterday along with all the parts for the rebuild so I am hoping to be out in November sometime however it will most likely be early next year as the car is also going down to be painted.

biggrin.gif we shall see though

I know what you mean ...

K24a would be a 'big block' for my car laugh.gif

So you've chosen not to go the forced induction route ?

jezza323
Post #1053

nope, no forced induction for me

think i was dropped on my head as a child. $3-4k for a 4efte conversion......or..........$5k+ for a 1.5L n/a with cams, high CR, quad throttles etc.

guess which will put out more power.......and more torque...

you'll have more fun with NA i think. so much more responsive and less issues than turbo *cough* rotary *cough*

we are actually looking at ripping the 12a out of the mx-5 if we cant fix its issues and putting something else in. hoping for NA powah of a 1UZ-FE. cams, rods, pistons, valves and a de-stroke. would love to be revving to 5 digits biggrin.gif

jezza323
Post #1055

think you will need a very deep pocket to hit 10,000 rpm with a 1UZ

yeah, but it'll cost less than this rotary rolleyes.gif

i wouldnt really attempt it but it would be nice. i'd say 8000 would be achievable.

So long as it pullz da chix moite happy.gif

You'll have to give us some reasons to your thoughts about choosing the NA ...

I choose to go the NA route because all the turbo cars I like are unreliable tongue.gif

hmmmm $1000 1UZ, or a $10000 F20C? i think i know which one i'd go for tongue.gif

after pricing all the parts i'd need i'd be looking at around $8-$10k to build the 1UZ to the level i'd want. still cheaper than the honda engine too tongue.gif plus there is no comparison to the sound of a high revving, small capacity v8, mmmmmmm.

but its all up in the air, so nothing is certain until we find out what we can ACTUALLY do with my car.

EDIT: "theoretically" the 1UZ has the potential to rev higher than the F20C too jamie tongue.gif i've been doing a lot of research biggrin.gif

What did you buy after the skyline?

For those with vid camera's in your car...which ones do you have? I wouldnt mind getting one but 1-2K is a bit steep to be thrown around in a track car.

Why not buy a fairly reasonable Handycam and then fabricate a camera mount, or buy a camera mount off Ebay?

You can get a fairly decent DVD video camera for about $600, more if you want one with an inbuilt harddrive, less if you use tapes and have a firewire port on your computer.

it might not be possible at all. we're getting a specialist out to see what he can do soon. if that fails the engine will be sold off happy.gif and make way for a bigger, reliable one that doesnt kill everything it touches with Aids.

jezza323
Post #1063

yeah id stick with the rotary, its already in there...13b would be better for getting parts n stuff though

i dont know if you will get a 1UZ in there simply due to legal capacity limits, not without some sort of frame engineering anyway.

i decided to stick with n/a cos i love the sound a sorted N/A with ITB's or carbs makes. also for throttle response. big power doesnt excite me much...i prefer the lateral G forces tongue.gif

will just be a learning experience for me putting this motor together. it is a paseo engine, which means 1.5L, but bolts straight onto standard mounts etc.

its not a matter of choice, we literally might not be able to use the rotary due to alignment problems. if i can i'll stick with the rotary. otherwise the whole setup will have to be scrapped.

1UZ just makes it under the limit by about 10cc's going off stock manufacturer's weight. Bullet Supercars used to put them in theirs as well, but they were entirely new vehicles.

NFS13B has very little trouble with his 13b turbo mx5 (back when it was not a track only car)

Its a good excuse to buy a cage so i have a decent mounting point. Think ill just grab a cheapy off ebay & see how it goes hsdance.gif

Rookie ROX
Post #1080

I threw together a setup that used the headrest mounts and a pole that brought the camera to sit just above the dash, it was great...until I replaced the drivers seat with a racing one.

There's a S15 (I think, could have been in a different car) that uses a nice mount that sits in the headrest holes and juts over to position in between the two seats.

Some ingenuity, some scrap metal and a broken tripod and you're set thumbsup.gif

Or a suction cup mount camera mount from Ebay..

This is true for all cameras, I killed my last cam from this when I had my front shocks set to their hardest. I have a hard drive Sony cam now and I'm not game to mount it in car for this reason...

Also a wide-angle lens makes things pretty kewl too.
