A question for the Sprint masses smile.gif

Has anyone used DBA rotors ?

Thinking of getting a set to go with an upgraded set of brake calipers ...

Has anyone had experience with any of their range ?

jezza323
Post #916

ive used both DBA and RDA slotteds on my car.....both have been fine, DBA's finish is better (painted in the non contact areas etc) but RDAs are literally about half the price

some ppl have had troubles with RDAs warping/cracking though.

I'm using RDA, haven't inspected them since the weekend but i haven't had any problems with them.

jezza323
Post #918

last time i ran on the clubman circuit the RDA rotors had started turning blue....but they are still fine, no warping smile.gif

also for those camera happy ppl there is a sprint event on at QR this saturday, pretty much all day (runs start at 9am i believe) being run by MGCCQ

i have DBA slotted, drilled and vented rotors. not sure on the model number but they seem to go well. not too sure on how they would hold up to abuse over a long period of time, but they seem to go alright. take a bit of getting used to though. It all depends on how deep your pockets are really.

that is the rotor lol or it might be with pads as well of which i for ferodo ds3000's. hmmmm see if i can find the invoices you pain in the butt tongue.gif

ok prices, but this is for my car your car may not need the same size rotors. Front rotors $944, rear rotors $550, ferodo ds 3000's front and back $750

but remember the first time you buy them you are paying for hat as well, after that its just a rotor, and the hat is much better with is heat dispersion than most other brands

Maybe I should just get your old brake set up and bolt them on laugh.gif

Budget doesn't allow a massive splurge on the brakes ... but they are rather important when going onto the track.

I hope you don't run those as your normal street pads ohnoes.gif

DBA seem to be a fairly decent rotor for the price, particularly for an Australian company. When you start moving into cross drilled rotors you're always going to start coming across complaints of cracking.

nah i have stock as a block pads on for street, just throw the ds's in when i am going to track, although i had them in for 1 week while i was driving araound and even cold they brake 10 times harder than the stocks i have in now. Best thing ever for the track. for the civic you would only have to do the fronts jamie, they will pull up hard just get the front rotors and some green stuff pads you will be right smile.gif

jezza323
Post #932

those rotors MEV09 are using are 2 piece floating arrangment, and not cheap tongue.gif

you just want normal ones, prices vary considerably depending on the car

my RDA fronts were $56ea + $90 for slotting the pair (so $100 ea basically)

my old DBA's were a bit more, about $320 for the front pair, thats including slotting

cheap place to get RDA's is www.brakesonline.com.au but i dont think you can buy online atm because of security problems they were having with the site.

EDIT: posted at same time as MEV....dont get Greenstuff pads, i managed to cook my greenstuff pads, in an 830kg car with 66hp....i now have the Ferodo DS2500's, were cheaper than greenstuffs and twice as good (cold and hot). work fine on the street too smile.gif

MEV09
Post #933

i would have given you my old set up cheap sold it off already for $150 lol, and that was the brembo cross drilled, i would suggest not to go cross drilled though they have a tendency to crack really easy.

Ah good to hear. I was going to say, running DS3000s on the street, cold, will just munch straight through your rotors.

I love my DS2500s - no brake fade whatsoever!

Just looking at the EBC stuff I would be looking at a Yellow or Red ...

The Green ones look like they are basically designed for Grannies in cars going down hill to fast blink.gif

just get the Ferodo DS2500's if they are available for your car, best pads for the price IMO smile.gif

I have greenstuff pads... have lasted me 11 meets so far... I am only running street tyres, so I guess that is the difference?

Maybe I should invest in some new pads for the semi's???

jezza323
Post #940

see how you go first....mine lasted about 5 SAS's and still worked, but when i took em out the friction surface was heavily pitted to the point of falling apart....and i pulled up a hellllllllllllllllllllll of a lot better with the ferodo's when i switched

im going to be using slotted rotors on the rotor ( laugh.gif ). any one got any ideas what pad i should use? its a strictly track car so its not going to be street driven?

Rookie ROX
Post #944

My preference will always lie with Ferodo - Either the DS2500 or DS3000 range.

The DS2500 is a fast street/track pad that will be kind to your rotors when cold, whereas the DS3000 is a dedicated track pad that will give you better stopping power, but at the expense of more rotor wear (particular when cold, so don't use it for any form of street driving).

For pricing, contact Competition Friction in Canberra or in V-Sport Sydney.
