Should put my Entry form in tomorrow, new cat is in and centre muffler removed so no restrictions in the exhaust. See how my poor tyres last this time!

Hi Guys,

Been watching this thread for a while, and been out to the sprints a few times my self, I drive one of the renault clio's that are getting around out there. I ordered a set of trackday wheels from the uk for the wee beast and they have finnaly landed so i am just after some ppls opinions on semi slicks and if any one has a supplier they can suggest. I am looking at the yokohama A048 at them moment but any feedback would be good.

Cheers guys and I will be out there Saturday so say hi. smile.gif

what size tyres do u need? ie what size wheels have you got?

The fellow that drives the quick 300zx there (he is a member on here too), can supply Bridgestone RE55s for very reasonable prices. Tyres sizes and prices are here: http://www.amecautocare.com.au/bridgestonetyres.htm

Otherwise you could try Hornibrook Motorsport. Craig has quite a bit of experience with hillclimbs and other such motorsport events.

jezza323
Post #820

This is my opinion

basically the best of the best are dunlops and those ones with just the 2 grooves...hankooks? mind blank atm, but they are exxy
next in line are the bridgestones, which are cheap in some sizes, exxy in others
and finally you have the toyos, silverstones etc which are decent but quite a bit cheaper in most sizes

not sure where kumhos fit in but ive heard they are decent

You guys need to buy them in other colours then blue and orange ... it's so hard to keep track while photographing them laugh.gif

I'd probably rate the Bridgestone RE55S and Advan A048 over the Dunlops ... they are pretty much the only two tyres the Japs will use to do time attacks

But lets open it up for the folks playing at home smile.gif

Which semi slick do you guys rate ?

lol well im the one blue one with the white stripes.

The RE55S look pretty good and are a little cheaper than the A048.
The next question after the what ppl think are the better slick is what compound would be best for a 1040kg hatch around QR.

Cheers

A048's are bloody good tryes, well i thought so on the evo anyway. they only problem with them is the price RE55's are awesome as well and a damn sight cheaper

jezza323
Post #826

id rate the yoko's about the same as the bridgestones, but both still under the dunlops

i gather you need something in a 205/50R15 size then? if bridgestones come in that size, get those, otherwise you can choose between dunlops/yokos/toyos/hankooks/and silverstones (only in a 195/50R15 though)

i went with silverstones cos they were cheaper, and i needed as low profile as possible. also 205's would be overkill for my 800kg car.

only secret work being done is mounting a fire extinguisher so i can compete in the MGCCQ sprint on the 22nd wink.gif then ripping as much interior out as i can before the 22nd laugh.gif

I've got some 225/50/16 Dunlop D01Js fitted for Sat, but once i wear those out i'll get RE55s.

Minko
Post #828

RE55's for me but i think compound might not be the best for a light clio? & the soft is not a road legal tyre.

I wont be comming this weekend, my GTR is being taken tonight sad.gif Might spectate...anyone know if old-mate black GTR with the dogbox etc will be there?

Will be back on-track in the near future however hsdance.gif

Just a headups my Porsche brakes & semi-slicks & rims will be for sale soon too(off GTR)

Bazilion dollars worth of consumables each time you go to the track? it cost me around $400 each time with no breakages.
Every time i go out its mostly GTR's & Evo's I might have to go RWD next...less competition tongue.gif

Yep that white 33 is quick but im talking about the one thats heading over to race in Japan soon...im sure i read somewhere he was considering a run at Sat sprints. If i can scab a lift im there anyway.

Yeah the Black R32 GTR is Mark & Russ's weapon, they are completely re-building it for Tsukuba and Tokyo Autosalon. I know they were keen to get out there to shake it down before heading to Wakefield, it would be awesome to see how much quicker it is now! I reckon 53's won't be far off the mark personally....

Don't speak like that buddy, just bring your out and have some fun. I've been really busy with work and training this year and have not had a chance to take both of my cars out. I faxed the form for the s2k this weekend but got a bit of problem with the s2k gear stick at the moment. Hopefully it will be fixed otherwise, I may have to take the c32 out ohnoes.gif

The GTR should be a bit quicker next year if I have time to take it out ohnoes.gif

How is your progressing?

I really hope Mark and Russel will be able to come out this weekend. It will be fun to watch.
