well before anyone says search dont worry i have, well i have come to stage where i'm looking at an engine conversion for my rn85 (94 lux) and yer there are so many options and i just wants everyones opinion on it
i'd like to stay with a 4 or 6 dont realli wanna go a v8 because of rego and stuff and must be manual
so we have

commodore v6:
with this will i just need the engine loom or the whole wiring loom? will it bolt to my 5 speed? have already looked at the conversion kits on v6conversions.com

toyota 3sgte:
personally would love to do this conversion cause i havn't seen it done but iam sure it has been
but then again coming from a front wheel drive will involve alot of modification, or was it released in a RWD not sure? and being toyota would it fit easier?

toyota 4age or 4agze:
either one wouldnt matter. being toyota will it bolt up to my box? will it be a big enuf motor? and which one would be best the 20v or 16v, some people prefer the 16v dunno y tho.

nissan SR20DET:
now this has been done a fair few times and everyone i have spoke to said it has harder then wat its worth and everyone has said it will cost up at least 8 grand

lexus v8:
a few of the guys on here have done the conversion so maybe they could shed some light

so right now iam just looking at all my options so feel free to comment but keep negative comments to urself please

what about 1j (2.5l) or 1ggte (2l)? Or are you trying to stay away from the turbos

MiNiTrUkR
Post #3

not really trying to stay away but they are a large motor and pretty expensive and i dont realli want a dyno king but a nice cruiser

20VGT
Post #4

1J would be my choice. With nice laggy T60 turbo or similar, for the hektik flutters, lol

synergy
Post #5

after seeing quite a few 1uz, i would choose nothing but it

MiNiTrUkR
Post #6

yer but its also a v8 which means my rego will go from being 300 dollars to almost a thousand, no thanks

evaded
Post #7

1GGTE would be a pretty easy conversion,

I wouldn't go a 4A of any sort,

1UZ is also a very cool conversion. The 3SGTE can be done if you look around on Toymods you might be able to run across a 3SGTE conversion into an RA23 Celica or similar which would give you an idea of what you need to do with the Hilux but it would cost more than dropping in an SR20DET.

Also any conversion will be expensive if you can not do any of the work yourself.

MiNiTrUkR
Post #8

yer pretty handy with tools and can do the labour myself just not the fabbing and most wiring, wat do 1uz's go for? will they bolt to stock box?

evaded
Post #9

Beats me I would probably use the box that comes with the 1UZ anyways.

Basically all of them will cost lots you have to decide which one you want wink.gif

MiNiTrUkR
Post #10

yer expecting them to all cost abit but i'd rather not go throught the whole getting custom tailshafts and stuff made as i live in a small town and i would have to send parts away but engine mounts and stuff we can make here so yer

NISMOgemini
Post #11

if it was me.. 1ggte, 1ggze, 7mgt or 7mgte.. reason being they bolt up to the hilux boxs. means les fucking around with mouting a new box. having a tail shaft made etc etc. and if your lucky to get ma70 engine mounts then u dont even need to make enigen mounts.. (pretty sure it was ma70..) not that its a big deal cos enigne mounts are the least of your problems in a conversion

MiNiTrUkR
Post #12

yer i might look at the 1g but i wont go the turbo route. cheers

NISMOgemini
Post #13

if your not going the turbo.. go with the 7mge.. of the top of my head there around 200hp stock.

MiNiTrUkR
Post #14

wat were they released in man?

and yes they are 200hp

the v8 is hard to put in lots of mods need'd i know a guy putting a v6 vs ecotech motor in his due to it being easy conversion and very cheap. and its 2ce the power of stock lux motor.

A 1uz is by far the best option for a cruiser, plenty of power and a great note. Where are you living that you have to pay $1000 to rego a V8 in Qld it costs me just over 200 more than the 4 did?

If you are serious about a 1uz check out www.lextreme.com there is a mountain of info there. There is also a few guys running them in 2wd luxes.

I used a surf manual and transfer case in mine (4wd) with a CRS bellhousing adapter, Skyline clutch setup and aftermarket management. I am still using all the original driveshafts etc and mechanically have not had a problem with the vehicle.

I wouldn't even consider a commo V6 they just suck. I have a VY Storm and the Lux running 35s beats it, and considering that its about as aerodynamic as a brick and being tuned and geared for offroad. It makes the commo look very sad.

Mine is putting out about 210rwhp with the stock restrictive headers, and no work done to it. They can be turboed or supercharged later on should the need for more power arise. They are a great motor and really fit the Lux bay well.

The commo v6 isnt the cheapo option really, luckily your alreday efi so that saves some hassle. My mate did this conversion about a year ago now and it ended up costing him around 7k. The hilux box is weak as piss so you pretty much have to go a T5 and even they arent that strong when you thrash it.

It isnt the fastest car in the world but its a shit load of fun, skates like a trooper and just generally is really fun to drive. Gets to 100 extremely fast when it grips but after that is pretty weak with the gearing he has.

An engine conversion is a massive project, changing looms, those v6 conversions kits need to be welded in (straight etc obviously) and is just a big big job.

The v6 isnt easily modified really either, once you have done exhaust etc its cams rockers etc etc and that stuff is expensive and doesnt give BIG gains for the money. My mate has been facing this problem for the past 6 months and only now has decided to build a stroker engine which is costing him BIG $$$

If i were you i would be rebuilding your current engine and turbo charging it. For the $8000ish you could make alot more power!!
What engine have you got in at the moment? 3rz?

Soz for the long post.

ok car is 2wd and its not efi its 22r but i set efi up no worries, and i live in the nt and rego goes size of engine. and i also have a t5 and some stuff from another car

the 7m's are from

1986.5-1992 (1987-1993 in Japan) Toyota Supra MkIII (MA70)
1988-1993 Toyota Soarer
1989-1992 Toyota Cressida Mark II (MX83)
1986.5–1992 Toyota Supra MkIII (MA71)
1988–1993 Toyota Soarer
Toyota Chaser
Toyota Crown

jump on www.supracharged.com

its all about 7m and 1g conversions into lux's and surfs.
they also have some info on 1and2j's, and 1U's

my cousin put a 1u in his 94 2wd lux.. stock, with microtech and ful exhaust. got 230rwhp. theres quite a bit of work and money involved tho.

NISMOgemini
Post #25

its a 4L
comecials with a full chassis like a hilux fall under differnt laws in most states.. dunno about NT but most u can fit larger engines conversion wise due tothe full chassis

MiNiTrUkR
Post #26

yer we can go up to 4.4 ltrs cant go any bigger then 2 litres over stock.

My V8 commo costs me $650/ year, and i cant see my lux (253) being much more when it is finished.

Unfortunately up here we are restricted to 4.4l, no matter how many mods we do (brake upgrades etc) to make the vehicle safer.

If i was to start again (had'nt blown the budget), i'd go with the 1UZ for sure.

yeah the 1uz if a 32-valve, quad cam, EFI Alloy V8. do some research on it from various sites it is without a doubt one of the best options available. These motors love to rev, idol low, have low fuel consumption in comparison to holden V8's. My lux actually chewed less fuel with the lexus V8 than it did with the 22R. And they pull hard, put a locker in it and u will have some reall fun. very torquey engines. Also if you blow it up u can buy the engines for about $800 so you simply cannot go wrong.

Not to mention theres example making 700whp without opening the engine.. THAT is fkn cool!!

Mate after visiting rellos in NT last week you would definately have a stand out rig with a 1UZ in it up there.

Also theres not much better than beating a commo 8 in a Lux, I have done it in mine and yours done properly would be a lot quicker than mine.

yeah i know a guy who ran a twin turbo setup on one in a cobra kit car, making well over 550hp at the treads. He took it down the strip heaps of times and absolutely thrashed it just to see how strong they really are and the engines still kicking. HAD NO INTERNALS DONE AT ALL, COMPLETELY STOCK. the 1JZ and 2JZ engines can also handle a heap of power

I can second that haha, not much beats the felling of pulling away from a new 6L SS ute in a hilux, especially when old mate driving it is a smart ass and paying out the lux lol..... GREAT FEELING
