Building Rb30

hi im looking at building a high hp. rb 30 turbo and just wondering if
any one can tell me if it matters if i use a NA motor or a turbo motor to
start off with and what the difference is. any tips greatly appreciated thanks.

Yeah it matters.
The turbo definitely has lower compression, which you need if you're planning to boost it high. The internals are also built stronger than the NA version, again which you'll need if you're chasing high numbers. Not sure on more specific things, but the turbo motor will be a lot more able to withstand high power. And things like oil supplies for turbos are already there.
It'll save you a lot of cash to start with a turbo than work a NA.

if u r making a high power engine then it doesnt mater cos u will be changing rods and pistons if u get a na block get a s2 block cos they hav the oil retern in the block

if your are going to build it any way it doesnt matter what you start with as they are pretty much the same. i would go for a na block as they have had a lot less stress put on them.

i am going to use standard crank, h beam rods, forgies,
it is 4 an LJ 2door torana.

If your building an LJ 2 door, why ruin it with a nissan engine?? Keep it all Aussie and use a 308 with an offset ground crank and chev rods. Will give you a 333 stroker. Add to this a capa or vortex supercharger, a set of ported VN 5.0 heads, a set of roller rockers, a good balance, a set of forgies, maybe throw a set of solid lifters with a 288 cam and roller rockers at it and you have a 600hp engine that will be all but bullet proof and cost you the same as your RB30 will.

Why blow a 6 when you can blow an 8 for the same money and have more HP. Cant beat cubes!!

i say stick with the six u could get a rb30 in a tori doing 9's with standard bottom end just with boltons u would hav2 spend a fair bit on a 308 to do the same i think

a ls1 would be good one if u want cubes to beat a rb for the $ u can get good power out of them with standard internals

9 seconds on a std RB30 bottom end??? Dont think so. It will be a freakin hand grenade.
A bog stock injected VN 304 with a tricked up turbo pattern trimatic and a set of 3.45 diff gears in an LJ will pull 11's all day long. You could have this set up in the car for under 3K.

One thing you have to remember with a RB30 is that the block WILL crack when u try for over approx 600hp.
Spoke to nizpro a while back about building an engine for my VLT calais and they advised me to use an RB25 engine and stroke it.

my mate had a vl doing 10.4's in a vl with standard botom end so in a tori it would break a 9 for sure

Yep, i watched a mate run a 10.8 on a 300000km old rb30, there's plenty of them making 300-350rwkw on standard bottom ends.

what year did the series 2 blocks come out in the vl commodore rb30 was it 87 88 ?enyone have info will be alot of help cheers
