you guys that believe ACA need to start watching neighbours, Good luck with your GTR have fun with it

I don't know how you could possibly drive, with so much wool over your eyes.

QUOTE(EDU57 @ Mar 7 2007, 02:41 PM)

i bought an ex HOT4's car from a dealer in bris. ran great, that car was quicker than most gtr's. first night out, the alternator belt breaks. take it back. they fix it, now the brakes are warped. take it back. get it back again, this time the drivers side window FALLS OUT!!!! wtf!! so i take it back again. by this time i was pretty shitty, and didnt really give a shit about anything except screwing the dealer over and burning down their shop! having to take my car to THEIR mechanics, who always drove it at breakneck speed while i was gone (i had proof of this, 122kph, 1.35G-forces sideways and revving out to 7550rpm in 34km's) and they did it everytime! he said "oh, it must've been from when it was on the hoist running". did they drop it or something? you cant hit that many g's on a hoist.

My brother bought an ex show car, and it was a dodgy shitbox of a car. Gotta say it could be good that the cops target modified cars, because most of the time dodgy dave just wants his car to be fully sick, rather than legal.

Anyway, have fun fixing your car eh, I hope you have a fat wallet.

i was more referring to the older model ones. i had a 33 my self before and it went fine. but most of the pre 94 nissan's tend to fall apart on you. just little things continuosly. ask some of the guys on SAU, one has been fixing his up for over 12 months now laugh.gif and the other one has been named a garden ornament.

you are right though, it is selective buying. i hope for this guy, its not as bad as it seems, but it probably will. i haven't heard of a non-thrashed gtr before? do they exist?

all i have to say is "welcome to the world of nissan, try to enjoy your stay"

there are stories behind...so you cant blame on nissan.

Dude, if you have problems with your car, go and see a qualified mechanic.

NOONE ON HERE CAN GIVE YOU SOUND ADVICE WITHOUT PHYSICALLY INSPECTING/LOOKING OVER THE VEHICLE, SO IGNORE THEM FOR THE MOST PART smile.gif

at about 15K, its possible to get a GTR in fair working order, but again at that price is a voyage into the unknown. Sometimes people just get the best price, especially if its at auction, it can happen.

Sounds like an ok deal to me. Gearboxes are pretty cheap. Heaps availabe ex japan as they are not needed when people put the rb26 motors into RWD cars. You can usually get them here for $800 landed. You can also import and compliance a 92-94 R32 GTRs for $15,000-$16000 these days but when local ones are getting close to the same cost there is not much demand.

this one wasnt that bad, just the last owner had abused it. but the dealership paid for all the repairs so really, i came out on top in the end. with an auction though, you have nothing to fall back on.

look, the only thing this boy can do is wait and see. you should always take your new car to a mechanics as soon as you get it (if not before you buy it) otherwise you could have a lot more issues down the track.

My brothers old car definitely looked the part as a shitbox, but with the low quality pics he posted up on here everyone was all like "omg it's so nice" rolleyes.gif unsure.gif

And I thought the joke was "the problem was so big the circle didn't fit around it" wink.gif

Btw - a motor that's spent its life idling in traffic polishing the bores is going to be worse off than a motor that actually got used.

my mate is a mechanic for the cops in brissy. they sell the highway pursuit cars off with extremely low k's on the clock. the reason? the clock may say 15,000k's but they sit on the side of the road all day with the engine running to keep the aircon on. so 15,000ks on the clock = about 250,000ks of engine use.

the problem is tho when you break a standard box, no one would want to put another standard one in...whats the point of doing that when you know it is GOING to break again? especially used ones when you dont know the history of the box..

I reckon i know a thing or two about jap cars & have a bit of cash behind me, i'd never buy a 10k GTR.... or even a 20k GTR.

Even R33's are starting to get a bit long in the tooth.

Good luck, sounds like your going to need it.

I can think of about 20 workshops off the top of my head that would fit a standard gearbox to a gtr and keep the old one for a rebuild or sell it to someone cheap so they can rebuild it. Used gearboxes are mostly from accident cars or some of them have been rebuilt. When you go buy one, you ask them to open it up before you get there so you can look at it, takes 5 minutes to open a gearbox up so if they say no, that takes too long, don't buy it smile.gif

Seems to be quite a few people round that haven't worked out a good R32 GTR costs 30k. You either buy a sorted car for 30k and hope it's all done properly/going to stay together or you buy a 15k sh!tta and put 15k (or more) into it to get it up to par.

Good Luck Bud.

stock gear boxs can only handle a certain amount of power.GTR boxes are not strong at all. if you can manage to break the first one, why bother putting in another one which will go in the future? i can think at least 20 GTR owners who keep bitching about themselves breaking boxes...

you mentioned it yourself, a REBUILD. have a guess how much that would cost.

i believe in doing things right in one go.

Completly off topic. But the only cockheads are the ones that are trying to be different with different replies.

I DARE.. no double dare you to find a decently running ie, no problems, roadworthy with a genuine 60,000k's on the clock, for $14,500. But whatever hey? Whatever floats your boat.. everyone is allowed to be different.

My Webpage

after seeing this car i have changed my mind...spend some money fixing it up (excluding any body work) and then pump some money into the sweet sweet rb26.

however i still stand by what i said before, i wouldnt buy a 14k gtr.
