This has to be somone taking the piss...because it's just way to funny. If your serious, the 4wd light means the car has been doing skids all its life in rwd mode and you sound like you're the type of person that's going to continue this...so don't worry about replacing the fuse. The gearbox..well hahahaha, it means, go to the drags, replace the fuse (just this once) and launch it on limiter to run "fully hecktic times" i'm sure you're a pro racer...take your friends to watch...see what happens. Lastly sell the car and enrol in a basic tafe english course...you need it...badly. Honestly...you've gotten yourself into serious trouble through pure stupidity and you're in way over your head....get to a mechanic asap and start taking extra shifts wherever you work....because this is going to cost you...a lot. Maybe you can sell it to one of your boy racer friends before it breaks..that would be my advice.

this means there is a problem with your 4wd.
check the fuse in fuse box, top of 4wd fluid.

could be something more serious hence the cheap price you paid.

by the way you type you sound young, lets hope you dont treat the roads like a race track.

Bingo.

It just so happened to have been a recent topic which could easily provide a subtle way of noting an issue.

If you don't believe imports have their odometer wound back, you need to stop watching Neighbours reruns 24/7.

your idealistic approach does not work in the real world. coming from experience, it doesnt matter how good the car feels if it doesnt go anywhere!

i bought an ex HOT4's car from a dealer in bris. ran great, that car was quicker than most gtr's. first night out, the alternator belt breaks. take it back. they fix it, now the brakes are warped. take it back. get it back again, this time the drivers side window FALLS OUT!!!! wtf!! so i take it back again. by this time i was pretty shitty, and didnt really give a shit about anything except screwing the dealer over and burning down their shop! having to take my car to THEIR mechanics, who always drove it at breakneck speed while i was gone (i had proof of this, 122kph, 1.35G-forces sideways and revving out to 7550rpm in 34km's) and they did it everytime! he said "oh, it must've been from when it was on the hoist running". did they drop it or something? you cant hit that many g's on a hoist.

so how does that make you feel good about the car? he will get to the point where the car is fixed and want to sell it for fear of something else breaking on it. there is nothing more depressing than having to fix a brand new car. you just want to kill yourself for buying it.

Well ive got a few freinds in Japan, and they always laugh when they read australian sites who belive about KM... 1 of them has a brother with an R33 GTR with 148,000kms on it?
More cheap parts on it then you could buy at a $2 shop cause he cant afford to modify it with proper parts..

I was told by her the day he wants to sell it he will buy some asthetic parts for it, Put some KYB/HKS/APEXI stickers on it.. Put some gauges here and there and somebody in another country will buy it.. Put some mockup performance garage sticker.. They get more money from Auction yards then they would selling it at home.

And there you go somebody in Australia thinks they have bought them self a 'Pure Bred JDM Tyte' car smile.gif

Mate since jap import cars became popular in the early 2000's it's been well known that cars were having the odometer fiddled with so the condition of the car matched the number of k's. The japs aren't stupid, they know we buy cars based on km's not condition so the (ab)use that to their advantage.

Hey guys, i am very happy 2 say dat I am at last a prowd owner of a R32 GTR!! U guys have no idea how bloody rapt i am! Anyways, I had a few questions to ask, how do i turn off the 4WD light in my dash, wont turn off?? does anyone have any problems wit GTR gearbox/transmission? cause my 1 is much louder once it hits 4gear.. and da transmission in general is noisy.
I live in melb, does ne1 no of a place where i can take it 2 get it lookd at and if possible get it roadworthy? I have to get a roadworthy, as i bought it at a auction. U guys would never guess how much i picked it up 4!.....hmmm... $14,750! dunno wat u guys think but i reckon dats a bargain!

Ohh and I have tears that is the funniest first post to a thread I've seen in ages.

Hahaha Cmon guys .. he just 'rapt' that he's now a proud owner of a GTR..

No need to flame him because of the price he paid and the fact that he didn't do his research beforehand or whatever.... I'm sure he'll find out sooner or later how much more it's going to cost him in the long run..

It's just trial and error guys smile.gif .. I'm sure some of you can relate..

P.S EVERYONE is well aware of the dodgy odometer reading on most cars .. not just imports..

The odometre KM's doesn't really mean much sorry...

Poeple in Australia have this thing about the odometres reading high etc, but dont think, the car is from Japan, the car would mainly see traffic conditions... so the odometre might be low, but the operating hours are high.

Your 4WD drive light might be on for a number of reasons.
- Check the 4wd fuse in the panel under the dash on the driver's side to see if it has blown ( normally if this has been removed the ABS dash light will be one also and wont work)
- Check the level of the oil for the transfer case in the right hand side of the boot (there is a tank in the boot with fluid, if that is too low it will make the dash light come on), you will have to take off a little panel to get it. make sure there is the right level of fluid in there when the ignition is turned on and it has purged the pump (the fluid should be in the middle of the min and max lines).

Hope fully its one of those, if its not, then it could be alot more expensive. pressure in the transfer case, g-sensor faulty etc etc.

While I agreed half the posts in this thread are just people coming in here to post jibberish shit ...

There have been some very constructive notes posted ...

If his car is in good nick then best of luck to him for picking up one of the best Japanese cars of the early 90's thumbsup.gif ...

But if what he says is true his car sounds like it's had a tough life and probably needs some costly repairs, which is another reason why buyers should be selective with their purchases and even RESEARCH the car itself ie

- is the car costly to maintain
- what are common parts that may break/need repair
- are the parts affordable to replace in new or used condition

Alot of people are going out and buying cars like the R32 GT-R on a shoe string budget and when they break (they are between 18 - 13 years old so most are bound to give out) they just don't have the cash to repair them ...

Wishfull thinking, I'm afraid. Congratulations on buying a GTR.. Though, you have bought a dud. With those problems I wouldn't have paid more then $10k for your car. I would bet 100 bucks that at LEAST two of those cylinders has compression lower then 120PSI...

Your Gearbox is screwed, and another 100bucks of top of that says so's your transfer case. LSD is probably worn out.. and with that much damage.. There is no way that its done 60k.. try 160k. But congrats none the less!

ThunderBolt
Post #56

Well it is very hard to diagnose noises over the internet, so you can't say that the gearbox has problems. Could be something else (exhaust rubbing somewhere etc).

Honestly, what would you prefer? That everyone bullshits about how great the car is, how the problems are just a loose bolt or two and a blown fuse and how he picked up the bargain of the century? Oooor, tell him the brutal truth that the chances of it being a screwed gearbox and being a lot less of a bargain and more of a big costly exercise getting it up to scratch.

^^ one or two people telling him the honest truth is enough, he doesnt need every person on the site to tell him and flam him for it.

some of you guys really need to grow up. think back to when you got your first car, how excited were you? this is his first gtr so he is really excited. i dont blame him if he wants to sell the car now just because you guys dont know when to keep your opinions to urself.

just because he got it at a auction doesn't always mean it has been thrashed or is a piece of shit. i know heaps of people that buy cars from auctions all the time for cheap prices and they all run great.

so if you dont have anything constructive to say dont bother posting. give the guy a break.

OT: sounds like you got a good bargain mate thumbsup.gif post some pics up so us people who would actually like to help, can.

Well he's gotten it 4k cheaper than suggested on redbook. So who knows maybe it's not even a GTR... Probably parts swapped and transfered into a GTS-T4... who knows. Maybe kay nock you should go do some searching for it's history. Might be an idea...

da car has only done just a tad over 60,000kms..btw, its got aftermarket FMIC, 18inch rims, brake upgrades, and gauges etc..its in good nik, u no how auctions go...u get a gem once and awhile. i guess i just got lucky!

how the hell do you figure you got lucky...it sounds like you bought a gtr that needs alot of work...a trap alot of people are going to fall into is that you can pick them up for round 20k these days and in your case well under, the trap being they are 20 year old trashed pieces of shit 99% of the time...

the only r32 gtr i would buy is the Vspec forsale on boost for round 30k.

eek bl kay nock, it seems u bought a dud car.. mayb you shouldn't have rushed into buying this car just because you saw the GTR Badge and thought "WOW A GTR!! So cheap omfg mum n dad buy this" and should have invested your time a little better researching cars and their relative worth from km's:Price .. i would have thought twice about buying a GTR with only 60,000km's on the dash for 15k. Maybe you just got caught up in the moment and got this car, so once again bad luck man. I hope it all works out well for you and the car whatever u decide to do with it; Sell it or fix it..

btw where did you go? haha haven't posted for a while =S

ps - i'm gonna laugh so hard if there's nothing wrong with this car and you just picked up an awsome bargain! then again its not likely but i'll keep thinking on the upside for ya biggrin.gif
