2006 Australian Curling Championships

The Victorian Curling Association will host the Australian Curling Championships for 2006 on 22-23 July in Bendigo. The winners of the Championships will go on to represent Australia at Pacific Curling Championships and World Curling Championships for the 2006/2007 Season.

Eight teams are entered into the 2006 Championships in the following categories:

Men
Vaughan Rosier, Paul Meissner, Matthew Panoussi, Gerald Chick , Daniel Green
David Thomas, David Imlah, Mark Wuschke, Alasdair Cameron
Timothy McMahon, Phillip Goschnick, Kent Highes, Bruce Willmott
Hugh Millikin, Ian Palangio, Sean Hall, Steve Hewitt, Steve Johns

Women
Sandy Gagnon, Laurie Weeden, Jenn Gagnon, Lyn Gill

Junior Men
Patrick Whan, Kyle Straub, Liam Atkinson, Mitch Porter, Josh Wiltshire

Open Mixed
Riccy Jamieson, Ian Whan, Andrew Butler, Anthony Hutchison, Michelle Zintschenko
John Anderson, John Pollock, Janet Cobden, Peter Cobden

Congratulations !
Well, the 2006 National Championships was a great success. Congratulations to all the players who took part, the organising committee and the volunteers who assisted with officiating, ice making and catering.

Australian Men's Champions
Hugh Millikin and his team of Ian Palangio, Sean Hall and Steve Hewitt fought hard to claim the 2006 Australian Men's Championships ahead of three other teams.

The Millikin team finished in a log-jam after the round-robin, one of 3 teams with a 2-1 record. They were awarded the top ranking as the highest-scoring team, and then defeated the Thomas team from Queensland 11-2 in the final.

Australian Open Champions
The inaugural Australian Open Championship was won by the team of John Anderson, John Pollock, Janet Cobden & Peter Cobden from Bendigo. The team won 2 of 3 games against the Andrew Butler team, also from Bendigo.

Women's Champions
The Women's Championship was uncontested, with one team entered. The team of Sandy Gagnon, Laurie Weeden, Jenn Gagnon, Lyn Gill was awarded the Carrbridge Cask for the Australian Women's Championship.

Junior Men's Champions
The Junior Men's Championships was uncontested, with one team entered. The team of Patrick Whan, Kyle Straub, Liam Atkinson, Mitch Porter, Josh Wiltshire was awarded the trophy for the Australian Junior Men's Championships.

K-1 was on the other night on Fox 3-2 I dont remember. Some good fights, a little Italian guy was knucking futs. Like 5"10-11 and beating a couple of 6"5 giant hulk people. Jolly Good show old sport.
