hey lads i dont know much about 4wd'ing, i know how to make em low but not high lol. but my mate just picked up this half finished project this arvo. i laughed my head off when he drove it off the car trailer no ramps or anything.

shes got a fresh 350 chev not run in yet, a shitload of lift and i think he said 33" tyres.
the motors wired and runs but theres no other wiring on it yet, we gotta finish the roll cage and mount the steering column and just general crappy jobs things for rego.

im about to look/search myself, but can anyone point me in the direction of some good 4wd sites so i can get to understand a bit more about these crazy things ?
when we finish im pretty sure my rodeo tray is going to fit under it.

heres 2 crappy pics ill get some good ones tomorow

the reason they arent done up as much as the sierra's is because sierra's have a rigid front diff setup, where as these have a ifs setup... not as much travel as a rigid, therefore not as good offroad...

Mo Rat
Post #222

^^^dead right, i absolutaly hate IFS

MIT20
Post #223

wheels tend to be in the air more with ifs, whereas rigid have a lot more travel and can keep the wheels on the ground... the trade off is that ifs is better for road driving... but you shouldnt buy a 4wd for road driving only... its a old argument...

Mo Rat
Post #224

^^^lol sounds like you've been through it a few times

MIT20
Post #225

another thing is that a lot of the newer 4wd's are coming out with ifs, and with the growing market for people to own 4wd and not bloody use the things for their intended purposes is growing heaps... IFS is there to pretty much accomodate for the soccer mums in their huge fourbies that have no intention whatsoever to go offroad...

In my opinion 4wds are getting wussier and wussier model after model... although nissan patrol has done quite well to stay true to its roots and not offer a IFS model... well i dont think it does anyway, please correct me if i'm wrong !

yes they are, well patrol and cruiser utes are still pretty tough and don't offer all the socker mum luxuries. UNFORTUNATLY the 2007 patrol will be IFS and IRS, no joke, great for the socker mums. they also arn't making utes with the 4.2's anymore, the utes will now be 3 litre (i think). independent suspension all round, and powered by a Turbo Diesel ZD45 producing 180kw and 570Nm or 5.6ltr Petrol V8 producing 240kw and 520Nm, 6 speed manual or auto

Theres nothing wrong with IFS vehicles, they simply just aren't as capable as a rigid front axle vehicle.

Although with enough $$ spent in the right areas they will go most places.

synergy
Post #237

why is ur front lifted so much hilux?

hi_lux
Post #238

that was after i put in the front kit but hadn't done the rear yet.

synergy
Post #239

do u have bj spacers in the front?

MIT20
Post #240

probably just put the spacers for a body lift in the front... then hopefully did the back afterwards...

i like ur lux hi-lux... i wanna do a body lift this summer on my 4runner...hopefully there isnt to much mucking around...

No its a Pro comp 4'' IFS front end kit. Also got a 2'' body lift.

synergy
Post #242

the bj spacers let u go to 3.5" lift in the front.

did u just get shackles in the back?
