I do believe it is not, because on bright shiny days it would reflected the sunlight and could possibly cause accidents. But some tint companies still do it. And there are also about 100 topics on this as well, the search function may assist you in your answer.

yeah its illegal but tinting companys still do it off the books, i.e no warrenty or receipt just a cash job.

It is also the same for 5% limo tint, i had it on my old soarer but it voids all insurance

Anything that impedes driver's vision would be illegal. My knowledge is that mirror tint and most coloured tints are illegal in Queensland, however this may obviously different for other states.

Most tinting places will do mirror tint, coloured tint and extreme dark tinting but they will not give you paper work for it as they normally try and keep these kind of jobs off the books.

apparently, not illegal on commercial vehicles.. somone want to clarify this? such as utes or vans, but only covering up the rear part such as the space cab/rear of the van.. not 100% sure.

Mirror tinting, just like normal tinting has a legal percentage.

Normal tinting cannot legally be darker than 35%, however as we all know most, if not all tinting companies will happily go as dark as you want. They just will not accept responsibility for fines, and some companies do not provide warranties (however, some still do)

Mirror tinting must not have a reflective index greater than 35% again I believe. Similar thing goes for coloured tints again. There was a topic which covered this quite completely, do a search and see if you can find it (both General & Qld)

It is illegal on commercial vehicles. BUT you can put what ever darkness tint u want on any window the driver doesn't need to see out of (something like that). So on my car for example (coupe bmw) i can put 35% on the front windows and rear windscreen, 5% on the rear windows and obviously nothing on the freont windscreen. probably what your thinking about with the utes.

yeh its illegal, coz it distracts other drivers and the cops cant see if u have ur seatbelt on

with cars you have to be able to see out of the back window i believe but is different for utes as they were designed to carry stuff back there, so you dont have to be able to see out of the back. i do not know if that means that you can have darker window tint on back window of a ute though

why do ppl make these threads???
dont anyone ever use the search button??
mirror tint is illegal...

"Automotive tinting material which has a light
transmittance factor of not less than 35 per cent (T35)
may be used on any non-tinted side or rear window."

"Film which has a reflectance of more that 10 per cent
must not be used on any windscreen or window."

taken for the 06 modifications book.
mirror tint is like 80 to 90% reflective so that rules that out.

so whoever says that u can put darker than 35% on a car legally is obviously gettin mis informed...
