Post #1 post 30th July 2006 - 10:45 PM
I hate being told I'm wrong, even by the police. So when I was defected in the DriftZone Forester on Saturday night for having static green undercar lighting I started digging for the documents I knew existed.

Its only $75 and 1 point, but when I know I'm right and HEAT6 tries to argue with me I'd rather not roll over and let them lube me up.

Before everyone starts saying "you're full of shit" or "they so are illegal, because my cousins mate who is a cop told me so" just read the below attached documents.

I've attached the Transport Operations (Road Use Management—Vehicle Standards and Safety) Regulation 1999 as its the actual legal document (ie: legislation) that covers the use of accesory lighting and also the AIS Code of Practice - Section 3 which is a document published by the Queensland Transport Department that states in black and white what I already knew.
I suggest that everyone prints these documents out and keeps them in their glovebox if they plan on having undercar neons fitted.

In the legislation, refer to the lighting and reflectors section and scroll down to Division 19.

In the AIS Code of Practice, refer to Information sheet 21.

ps. AIS = Approved Inspection Station. ie: Queensland Transport approved roadworthy inspectors.

i didnt read the articles, but going by the topic title, i assume that the ones that are legal would be amber coloured on the sides, red on the back, and white on the front?

Hmm interesting.

As mentioned I'm not sure if I wanna push my luck with the cops. They will probably just find something else to defect instead lol.

But yeah, that word 'dazzle' will be the definement.

goin by that legislative piece of documentation you only have to have a pair or brake lights and not an eye level brake light.

Your spot on. They can fine you for causing a distraction to other road users but I would love to see them argue that in court.

Dazzle to me means to heavily distract. Can't see how some pissy ass neons can do that.

The neons on the forry are always set to green, and dont even come close to becoming dazzling.... Trust me...lol...

On another note, I thought they were after me in the 180 from some of my on ramp shananigans....lol

Correct - But do we really need to be rice and drive with our fooly sik neons bra on?

Completely different legislation there - The eye level brakelight would be listed under ADR (I believe) regulations. All cars made after about 1990, or somewhere around that time, were required to be fitted with one from the factory. However I can't be fined, nor can I be forced to purchase one because the car never came with one from the factory and wasn't a requirement at the time.

Speaking on lights topic though - how the hell are these new Falcodores getting out of the factory with illegal foglights? Legislation states that foglights can only be used in poor visibility (ie. fog), and when turned on, the headlights MUST be overriden to parkers. I know new Mercedes (as well as my older car) does this when foglights are turned on, but other cars are getting away with it. Why?! How?! Sorry but foglights in use anytime not needed (ie. day or perfectly clear night) really pisses me off.

i looked up the meaning of dazzle and it said "brightness enough to blind partially and temporarily" neons are no bright enough to do that, so i rekon they must be legal

And when you get defected for the smallest things because you DID piss them off and want to assrape you, please don't even consider coming on here and having a whinge.

As before, legal if the source is not visible. A neon is very bright and 'dazzling' if exposed.

but i wont get "defected" cause i dont have anything in my car that is illegal. So when he tries to bend me over, ill turn him round and bend him over before he can hand me a defect, then when i kick his doors in and drive off he will know to keep quiet cause i know were his kids an his wife be smile.gif

Shouldn't you be in bed? It's a school night you know.

And sicksr, having an unsecured seat due to a broken seat rail is highly unsafe, illegal and therefore defective smile.gif

the car he was driving was a forester.. so im guessing its a pimped SUV and its from driftzone... maybe works for them or sponsored and i guess its just a way to sorta grab peoples attention to the brand name.. but hey neons can look cool

KERAZY
Post #32

neons look good if theyre tastefully displayed on worthy cars. if you get a stock lancer or something, CC with no rims or nothing, n bust neons on, then thats a bit rice.

moe002
Post #33

neons to me are good for show reason eg: boot installs, or as stated above; car shows etc... biggrin.gif

DZ
Post #34

LOL. I knew the topic of neons being gay or ricey would come up.

S'funny, I always thought the same thing about accesories added to a car purely for cosmetics with no performance advantage. That was until I bought a car that isnt a performance car. The Forester is a promotional vehicle. Its covered down both sides with DriftZone graphics. Its got advertising from most of our sponsors splattered all over it and its MEANT to attract attention.

Anyways, for all those people who thing neons are rice, I hope you never respray your car a nice colour. Respraying does NOTHING to improve performance but (in your opinion) it makes the car look better.

Lets concentrate on the thread at hand people. The fact that everyone comes on here bitching about being defected for this and that, but when I actually show PROOF that the police are wrong, all we hear are peoples opinions of whether the item is rice or not.

BAH!

but your proof is a little loose. if the police decide that the neons dazzle, you can be defected.
