tough call
i have a 200kw evo 3 lancer and i am currently buying a 255kw vx hsv clubsport r8

both are very different cars

but both are great cars
the point no one has touched on is how much weight the power has to carry

1708kg clubsport r8 with 255kw and 475nm
1190kg evo 3 lancer with 202kw 300nm

100kW difference is a substantial power advantage stuit even if you are to ignorant to apreciate that fact

where did i not appreciate it? of course its a lot more power, but going by the two cars that 57ING mentioned, the extra 100kw isnt enough to make it faster thumbsup.gif

well lets see what i can pull apart here.

everyone is stating that in the first post that it said 300kw na engine and 200kw turbo engine but they escape the fact it says WRC engine mean world rally championship engine, anyone who knows the requirements to be in WRC know that the engine has to be a turbocharged 2L motor.

therefore only being able to really choose from a very select group of cars and then leaving the 300kw up to the fairies

all of these people who say that the V8 will always dominate have been proven wrong over the years, look at the supercars when they first came out dam the straight 6 turbo GTR's by nissan kicks all the v8 supercars. and then u say that they will always make more power than a smaller capacity engine. so where are they at dyno days and dyno domps at auto salon.

HMM most of the record holders ive seen for most power have been from 6cylinder cars with turbos OH DAM NO V8s hmm lets see most of last yr highest powers were set by w3hat SKYLINES with straight 6s hmm this year highest power also set by a 6cylinder SKYLINE oh dam i think i see a pattern, hmm no v8s all i can say is u v8 masterbater get off ur ass and prove that u are superior not ont he highway were u can sit on 250 wher we sit on 200. but show it by taking out a power output challenge at a well known place. hmm lets say BAS oh wait they dont let carby motors in now do they. so i guess it will be the new fuel injected v8s taking the stage and more than likely loosing.

hey ill be happy if i see a v8 kick the 900 to over 1000 hp at a salon, id be surprised, but id happily apologise if a v8 took out overall power and set a new record at BAS.

as wattsy and i are trying to both say is on topic ... and that is the aspirated engine in this posted question has 1/3 more power than the turbo unit so you dont have to be a rocket scientist to work out who in this example will come out on top thumbsup.gif 100kW difference is a substantial power advantage stuit even if you are to ignorant to apreciate that fact

Just to make a point ...

Lets see what a 100kw advantage means on the strip, With a heavier car ohmy.gif http://chilly.theddrzone.com/Me%20V%2013BVW/

And no the ls1 didnt win

Taken from here http://www.ls1.com.au/forum/showthread.php?t=58572

Note that run was only beaten by one car length not by 7 to 8 as he use to tongue.gif

head_wall.gif FFS why are you all still arguing you can't compare a v8 to a turbo 4cyl. 2 diff motors in 2 totally differant platforms

last time i checked top fuel dragsters were about 700 cube v8s and 5500hp, that kinda blows your belief of 6 cyl turbos making 900hp being the ducks nuts of engines away doesn't it.

not really becuase id like to see them at a car show on a dyno, not a sunner nets thing but one where there are normal everyday drivers i know 900 or so hp itsnt much dam if it was id be worried i know dragcars make a crap load of power i was more saying that all of these road driver v8 drivers talk about all this v8 being more powerful. all i was saying is lets see it at a show.

i aint been to summernat heros but im talking about shows that are easyh to get to not a willobank competition

BADEZ go to summernats then make a comment.

there a alot of big hp (more then 1000hp) v8s there.

i very much doubt that any of the 900hp cars you are talking about are daily drivers, they might get street driven once in a while but it wouldn't be every day

yes badez your post was by far the least educated in this whole thread. just because you've been to autosalon doesnt mean you know it all. dynos dont reall prove much, to bad if the car makes to much power and just breaks traction on the dyno

Eddie Tassone's old TTV8 VH Commie, made over 1200HP. (Street legal I believe)

Now he has a TTV8 VZ Ute making over 1800rwhp. So your claims, that there aren't V8s, that can't make over 900HP and still be street driven, is obviously bullshit, as there are plenty of V8s, making those numbers.

Hell the 1000HP N/A record is held by a V8 Capri. wink.gif

I think you need to do a bit more research, before making such ridiculous claims. rolleyes.gif

Anyway after reading this thread the last few days, it's apparent that this argument will never be settled.

Just remember guys, no matter how fast you think you are, there will always be someone faster. Regardless if it's a V8, Turbo 4, Turbo 6 etc. thumbsup.gif

Ahahahahahaha - I've been sitting back and reading this for a while, but there's one post that forces me to reply.

Autosalon. Bee's knees? Ahahahaha! A majority of all the cars at Autosalon are completely riced to shreds, all the money spent on paint jobs and bodykits, very little spent on engines. Yes there are some serious pullers, but most of them are just Dyno Queens. Trucked to the event, rolled onto the dyno, push out a power figure and then back on the truck. I'm sure there's many others here who will support me when I say that Autosalon is far from the be all and end all of competition motorsport, especially dyno runs. After digging through piles of rice and showcars, you may possibly find a powerhouse, but your definitely more inclined to find one of those at Summernats, Powercruise or Jamborees.

Besides - who the hell whats to drive a 900+hp vehicle on the street as a daily driver anyway? I'm sure there's people experienced enough to know that even a 600hp vehicle is a bitch on the street, let alone an extra 300hp.

As for the V8s - I'm not a huge fan, but I know there was enough to completely shred your claims. Now if my memory recalls correctly, just a few weeks ago there was a Ford ute packing a twin turbo V8, and his first dyno run on low boost with a very basic tune pulled 1200+hp. Hell I may enough go to effort and link it up for you.

Anyway - who the hell cares about the Skylines? I believe the comparison in this thread was an N/A V8 vs 4cyl turbo. Since when did a turbocharged straight 6 come into the equation? huh.gif

This thread has suddenly got interesting again! The merry-go-round suddenly seems to have stopped spinning round and round and broken the reigns going completely off topic.

I wasnt going to post in this thread again, but after reading this post i had to!

Are you the biggest idiot in the school playground or what?!

You seem to think the car event world revolves around Autosalon. Autosalon is shit - i wouldnt even go there if they let me in for free. Theres more rice in the Austosalon arena than there is in all the rice paddies in Vietnam put together.

Autosalon is one dyno event out of about five thousand. Instead of only reading autosalon books at little lunch you should broaden your scope a little and see what is happening in the real world. Even the most staunch import car supporter would agree that horsepower heroes/ dyno comps are always going to be won by the V8..... its only natural that the bigger engine will win. rolleyes.gif

Geezus, at the Summernats you dont even bother trying to win the outright title unless you have 1200plus horsepower at the wheels..... and thats is made in the thin, mountain air at Canberra!

And geez, lets try and strap some of those big cube monsters we see in the drag racing world to the dyno. 7500plus horsepower!

thin mountain air is a brilliant observation not to mention the huge heat soak from the tin shed that the Dyno cell is held in , all this is held at the hottest possible time off year and on pump fuel ...... just imagine the figures if it was held at autosaloon at sealevel and during winter on whatever fuel you like ????? i wont even start to mention the way some dynos are set up at events to compensate for various factors in order to achieve the desired numbers wink.gif

I have a 3 week old black VZ Clubby LS2 and having fun using it as a daily driver.Never driven an Evo but hear and read that they are best as a w/ender.To have both would be fun for every day of the week.
Did once own a '97 WRX from new for a year-loads of fun but a 6th gear would of been great for highway work.

i'd admit i've driven a lot of V8's and turbo cars
there has been 1 turbed car that took the cake tho. wrx runnin 19psi and spikin at 22psi. that puts back in your seat i'd admit but still love V8s.
as for the original topic
THE V8 HAS 300KW AND THE 4CYL HAS 200KW AND WHEN YOUR DRIVING THEM YOU HAVE EARMUFFS ON SO YOU CAN'T HEAR THE WANKY BOV OR THE V8 RUMBLE.
