Cool.

Sorry, I had no idea you were a funny person... Also sorry about straying from discussion.

A mate member of mine mentioned about this thread to me, thought i would see what the go was...

Got a bit cut when i read things as above. If you guys dont think the cops or government people read this think again...

It is a great portal to see whats going on in the street, thats why I and most memebers read it.

Imagine a government official read that.... (wouldnt they see it through a n00b's eyes?)

Glad this is me debut to the forum again.
Peace out. Nuff form me. =)

Well aware that certain groups read this site, its just a real pitty that they dont take note of what is actally going on.

Considering that they are the ones that have the powers and the say, if it came down to them looking at a forum to make their decision, i would be appauled...

Realisticly tho, they are only in this game for them self, getting the public MAJORITY happy (which we are not) to get more votes for the next polls = more money and sittin on their ass which gov employees do best. Its just a pitty sitting on your ass comes with the ability to make fucked up rules.

The stats I mentioned earlier could, if they wanted to, be used to thier advantage.
eg:
Look everyone (voters) we have taken the hoons off the streets by providing a safe environment to do it in. and look how much it has helped....

C'mon. You dont need to be a drifter to vote for that!

That won't be a problem Danny - After the health crisis and the drought effects and land resumptions i don't think the labor government are long for this state.... Who ever the opposition are - they are going to have to be total assclowns to loose the next election..

I'm just sick of hear Beaties sniviling voice apolagising every 5 secs for some fucked up situation bought about by incompatance - if i did a job like these wankers have done over the past 8 yrs then i would have been sued and fired long before now thumbsup.gif

Unsure how to feel about this, clearly alot of different opinions within this thread....... Qld Gov. needs to wake up and smell the roses, i mean my family members are cops, and they agree that the skid pan and QR are the place to do this, controlled environment.

But does this mean that the Porshe cars will not be doing this either, as it would be classified as car control / drifting beig included in their training package...... so in effect if we call it car control, i guess it could still be done????????

i guess its going to be a 1 hr drive out west for me now. Thanks QLD/AUS GOV, not only are u hiking fuel prices now ur forcing me to drive the extra distance to attend in something i enjoy within a controlled envionment.

Sad to see this, but unfortunatly a matter of time. I recieved a letter from "Honourable Judy Spence MP, Minister for Police and Corrective Services" which had this little titbit which i found amusing in regards to facilities for people to congegrate at.
So its a 4 year old study theyre relying on to blatantly bring in more revenue, without doing anything to help the growing problem they have, with "hoon" behaviour............

That letter is the funnest thing that i have read today. This is because she has COMPLETELY CONTRADICTED HER SELF!!!!! I watched the news reports at the opening of TFATF3 and Mrs Spence said and i qoute "They need to get off the street and take it to the track."

BUT now she is saying that taking it to the track is worse because we are all hoons, going to these place to refine our hooning skills so that we can terrorise the general public and be on ACA and togay tonight every other week.

QUOTE(Claymotion @ Jul 6 2006, 11:35 AM)

Instead of arguing about how "stupid" the government is and how much of a "dumbass" Judy Spence is.

How about we start up a petition thread or do up a petition to take along to get signed on cruise nights to send in to the Hon Judy Spence MP.
*** Save QLD Drift Cruise *** could be an option to get a petition signed??????

Then attach a well written letter explaining why we think it would be feasable to put in place more "off the street motor-vehicle usage areas" and how we know as car enthusiasts that it would bring people off hte stret to do what they do in a controlled environment.

Of course it will not bring all of the car enthusiast as therre will always be a few uninteligent people who will prefer to "fang one out" on the street but a lot of the car enthusiast will take to this idea.

</2 cents>

I have a better idea lets get a signed petition together and organise a cruise to personally give it to Mrs Judy Spencer as she lives down the road from me!!!! now that would be cool.

This will only work in a fantasy land as petitions and cruise will not get any where with regards to politicians and changing there minds.

True, but think of it as a good way to get the media involved. Even if the petition doesn't work, the government won't have the best publicity if it gets out that they've done a such a hugel backflip.

I hope this aint the case any time soon as I have just paid a deposit for a skid pan session in august.

I work at mt. cotton sometimes with an advanced driving school and I have heard nothing about this...

ThunderBolt
Post #46

Apparently there was a drift school setup there, with their own cars. This is what the government is banning. As far as I am aware, most of the "drift" sessions that have been there in the past have been done specifically as driver training events, hense were able to get away with it for so long.

I only heard about the ban of the drift school, nothing else. If true though, then something must be done about it.

You could see this coming for a while - I used to organise skidpan days at Mt Cotton for the car club(s) I'm in - but last year they brought in the DB testing for modified cars...which brought an end to our driver training days.

Its a pitty too cause a lot of people in the club got a lot out of it.

Now we've had to relocate our sessions to the Gympie skidpan (which is privately owned).

Bah f*(k it. I'm a hoon and Im' proud. The government can suck my wang and swallow my jizz. I didn't vote for them anyway.

We had a skidpan run on Saturday and we didn't get into trouble for drifting!
Only one guy got in trouble for "drifting"in his WRX cos he was linking the whole track!
I didn't even get DB tested! Not bad since I'm 110DB! tongue.gif

well ppl have said that petitions dont work but the car enthusiast community on a whole is pretty damn big and constantly growing but y not try gettin a petition goin and get it out over all the other forums clubs in qld and try and do something venting in here and sayin how stupid the gov is isnt gonna help or fix the situation. somewhere along the line we need to find away to make the community heard

QUOTE
I note you have suggested providing more off-road driving facilities for car enthusiasts to provide a venue where motoring can be enjoyed without the constraint of the anti-hooning legislation. Unfortunately however, the road safety benefit of providing venues for people who wish to race may not be supported by research. A study undertaken by Kloeden, McLean and Glonek (2002) from the Centre for Automotive Safety Research at the University of Adelaide found that racing in a controlled environment does not reduce the incidence of speeding on a public road. Therefore, while facilities such as those which you suggested may attract drivers currently illegally racing on public streets, it is unlikely to reduce the incidence of "hooning" behaviour on public roads and may not result in improved road safety benefits. The Queensland Government is continually monitoring new developments in road safety and will review and consider any research into providing off-road racing facilities.

So its a 4 year old study theyre relying on to blatantly bring in more revenue, without doing anything to help the growing problem they have, with "hoon" behaviour............

Sorry, just goin back to what HSV said earlier. Of course the number of hooning related incidents wont drop. The fuckwits doing it couldn't give a stuff where they do it. And their not likely to want to pay $50+ when they can do it on the street. By giving us somewhere to congregate and cut loose on a race track it takes the honest to god car enthusiasts out of the picture when it comes to hooning. That mean that the real hoons will actually get caught and not some innocent by stander. Maybe they need to study the Car Scene as a whole and not interview the very few hoons that get arrested.

Then why bother reading or posting in a thread about it then?

GoldRush
Post #61

ok fellaz i wrote up a petition, tell me what to add and take out.

Drifting is a form of motorsport, other states such as NSW hold track events to get people off the streets and onto the track. Banning drifting from a facility aswell as on the road isnt going to help. If its banned on a track, whats to stop people from doing it on the street? Where as if the track was open to all motorsport enthusiasts, people would much rather go to a track than risk injury or death on the street where chances are ALOT higher.
This petition is to allow tracks to be opened to the public for drifting.

i think we should add to the statement things we can do for safety on the track? maybe have noobs go on alone on the track so they dont crash into other people, maybe like go karting you have to show basic skills to be allowed on the track, things like that. add things, also making this in a seperate thread might be good?

sorry goldrush but that petition will be used to wipe the politician's ass. U need to word it correctly if u want them to take it seriously.

with a petition u dont want to give them ideas, u want to give them demands.

try something simple like:

This petition is protesting the banning of 'drifting' at Mt Cotton (raceway or whatver it's called) by the QLD government. This protest is because the concern regarding the high risk of 'hoon' related accidents that would occour in the event this facility was to be removed removed and competitors, forced off the track, on to our public roads.

signatures:
......

also, the petition should not be alone, people need to write personal letters to both commonwealth (senate comitees, senators, police commisioners.. anyone important in the c'wealth that has control over saftey, transport infrasturcture etc.) and state government. U could even go to the local gov't!
If u CBF sending them off individually then when u sign the petition just bring a note containing ur argument (typed, signed, with adress and phone number) and they can be sent off as a bulk package (That would probably be better as it would be a bigger hit rather than lots of little things). Send a copy to the state gov't office, premier, transport ministers (state not c'wealth), saftey minister or anyone else u think could help.

My petition draft is not prefect (hey, c'mon im only 17), but it is closer to what the government will take seriously. u can't have rhetorical questions or questions of any type in a petition. u need to be clear and concise and have a statement not a request. u also need to specfy that it is Mt. Cotton u r talking about not just drifting as a sport.

anyway, if u have any q's about petitions (I study politics and legal studies) u can just PM me.
