Hi, I checked my engine oil the other day and there was no oil on the dipstick however the oil pressure/level light had not illuminated yet and the temperature never rose above half . So I decided i wont drive any further until i top up my oil. This morning i "topped up" my oil and it took 6 lt of oil before it was between OK and FULL. The engine still sound fine and the oil temperature is still below half. What is the oil capacity of my engine? and what affects can this have had on the engine beside the increase in friction?

Apparantly from the manual..
7.0 litres (dry motor)
6.8 (with filter)
6.0 (without filter)
So you've had about 1L of oil in your car.

Drain it and measure how much you've got.
Depends how long you ran it with virtually no oil how much damage you've done.

i work as a mechanic at ford.
the 4L motors take 6.6L of oil including filter (that gets them on the full mark)
so you had under 1 litre. check for leaks. if u recently changed the oil filter make sure its tight and make sure you havent doubled up on the seals.

may want to invest in a thicker grade oil to help the damaged internal parts
