I was reading about how the 57ARE ute got stolen by F*&^ stains and that it had an imobilser and alarm. I know i would carstrate anyone you dare touch my car let alone steal it. If they can get past alarms and imobilisers then what can you do to insure your car cant get pinched.

Maybe someone with extensive knowledge on car security could put a sticky post up with the mods blessing.

If they really desperately want to pinch the car they will all you can do is try to slow them down as much as possible. A simple thing to suggest if driving an auto is to leave the selector in D laugh.gif unless you have some weird auto that can start in Drive ohmy.gif another thing would be those stickers people have on their windows for alarms use a sticker of a different brand alarm system so they can't identify it easily that way.

run a master battery kill switch and take the key and have the alarm/imobiliser on a different circuit?

this is what i have thought of doing

that way they need a key to get power to the battery... then they have to do the alarm

or even put a magnet switch under the dash...

but like someone said.. if someone wants it... they will take it

If u have the Know how on how to bypass all those alrms would u give our ur secrest

what i know for the basic alram is expanding foam a screw driver

fill the horn up with expanding foam jam the screw drive into it twist it like fuck and the siren should be fucked


I can remember the Jag had a Comp for anybody who cold ghet past there alarms would get to keep the new car
well one dude took them ona they closed the curtins and wiht in 10mins he drove off after that he had offers from Porch , Jag and all major exotic car makers around the world.............. Nothing is fool proof

ok ive always thought bout gettin a pice of say 20mm thick steel pipe. welding four smaller bit onto each about 100mm long, so that you can slip anpther thick pipe over all 3 pedals in a manual car. you then have a couple of padlocks and make them pretty hefty ones. hopefully u can understand wat im gettin at. if u do ull see it may work. it would be time consuming but we all put steering wheel locks on dont we??

yes, these pedal locks do exsist, and proove to be far better at stopping theives than a steering lock... however i guess anyone with some decent lock picking skillz/a big ass bolt cutter, could get past them...

i have been into lock picking for some time now (no not to jump cars or nothing just as a hobbie seeing how locks work and stuff and just incase i leave my keys somewhere) and i can tell you right now... a few months of practice and they can pick ignitions, car doors, steering wheel locks all in like 30 seconds..... if you have the right tools even quicker, but that kill switch sounds like a good idea

on the MG i have a clutch lock, which basically looks like a steering wheel lock but it made of much stronger materials, a big fuck off padlock and a two hook type things one which goes around the clutch and holds it up and is attached at the other end to the steering wheel.

Also have a hidden lock (seperate key) for the battery.

Seeing it's an alarmless softtop it kinda needs those things or i'm fucked.

no, they aren't like all pedalls joint together, there is one big piece of metal that sticks under your accelerator... then goes down to the floor...

i had an idea the other day, prolly stupid and impossible but hey it could work.

firstly, a camera. mounted somewhere like in between the two front seats on a pole. This would be a panoramic camera (can see 360 degrees) and it is set up high enough so that it can see out all 4 sides of the car. This camera should be hooked up to transmit images or video footage to a computer either yours or a security companies. That way, if the car got stolen, there would be footage of the offender on camera on a computer somewhere.

Might be dumb and stuff but i always thought hey i could make a million bucks outta this.

i've got a sensor switch (touch of finger activates it) on my car... it bypasses the ignition coil and therefore without knowing where the switch is you can't start it.. when i say switch i am talkin about a lil screw that acts as a sensor.. works a treat and no one knows where it is.. you just put a finger on the screw and turn the ignition..it starts.. no finger on screw and turn the ignition and you get nuthing...good fun when u bet sumone 20 bucks that they cant start ur car in 3 goes...

Banks have cameras and they still get robbed. A constant video feed to your security company would be slightly out of the question since you'd need a giant aerial and a shitload of power then a licence to transmit. It'd be cheaper to just buy a new car when it got stolen smile.gif

my granddad (big john) actually uses the metal bar idea, except he attached a plate (dont ask how) to the floor of the car under the drivers seat and then a bar extends to the peddals and locks both together (solid steel bar 20mm thick) and then he chains the peddles together.

He does this EVERY time he hopes out of his car.... takes him 30 mins (because of age) just to undo the bloody things. i kid you not if you could get past it i would be suprised. If you dont believe me im happy to show you.... but you have to come around to his house cause he wont let me drive it sad.gif

(on top of that the car has an alarm, gps tracking)

so to say the least he deters theives laugh.gif laugh.gif

Battery switch is a good idea, but on one of my old cars, i put a switch on the coil wire.
The thief could crank that ignition all he wanted but unless he flicked that switch first he would justleave me with a flat battery rather than no car at all.

GPS tracking... atleast you might get it back...or get the f**kers who steal it.

One idea I had was if....say you have an aftermarket engine management system and you had the ability to hook up a laptop to it - how hard would it be to make a program that would dump out all the maps to the laptop so the ECU wouldn't be able to start the car. It sounds good in theory, but in practise it would be a hassle.

Pros:
No ECU maps
Unable to start car or wouldn't be able to drive it away if you could

Cons:
Have to carry a laptop around with you
If the laptop dies or gets stolen while out of the car - bye bye ignition/fuel maps

The other option is to take the ECU with you when you leave the car. But again...if you loose this or damage it while its out - it's a lot of hassle.

If a pro wants your car - they will get it. Even if you had everything concieveable done to your car to prevent it from getting stolen - what's stopping someone turning up in a tow truck and towing it away. How many times have you seen a tow truck pick up a car in a carpark or parked on the side of the road and never questioned them? IMHO - that would be the "easiest" way to get a car.

do you guys know you can get finger print starter thingys? i dont know the full details on it but if it aint your fingerprint then the car wont start, someone should look into it, i saw one for sale on ebay for a couple hundred dollors

(sorry for the crap discription but i just woke up)

Yep - a biometrics reader to start the car. I believe there was one in the Toyota Concept car at BAS. You can buy biometric readers fairly cheaply now. The hard bit will be in working out the circuitry to hook it up to the ignition/alarm/immobiliser and making it secure.

Or get a pin number system like the BMW in The Transporter.

But as it was said earlier...all of this is useless when your car can still be put on the back of a tow truck.

The other thing would be to make some sort of brake locking mechanism. So when the alarm is armed - all 4 brakes are fully engaged and clamped on the rotors. That way it would be a bit more difficult to move the vehicle. Have that in conjuction with your whiz bang biometrics alarm.

Anything is possible...just gotta find someone with the know-how to put it together cost effectivly.

yeh fuel pump is a good idea, but still, thses days just an alarm and immobiliser isnt good enough, somehtin real mad needs to be thought of, but while we are all here discussin ideas, the farkwit car stealers are laughin at us and reading all our fool proof ideas.

You can have all the different keys/fingerprint readers/keypads in the world.. it doesnt help when all thats behind that is a few wires... how easy would it be to bypass an immobiliser/keypad/fingerprint scanner????

pretty freakin easy. you dont even need a PHd.

this combined with a fuel pump and INJECTOR pulse cut, for EFI cars works the best.

other than that..........they will just put the car on a tow truck and strip it else where. nothing will stop them.

all these ideas are good, except someone needs to think of a way to stop theives being able to Tow the car, ie like the principle of a bike chain or something (thats just the first thing that popped to my head, u'd need something a little more advanced!)
