Qld P Plater In Nsw - anyone know which rules i have to follow? Thanks

From what I've been told.

While in "said" state, you have to obey their rules.

So yes I'm assuming you'll have to do the 90km/h speed limit.

na im on the new p plate laws and i got told you dont have to follow the laws, for example p platers that are on the old law do not have to show p plates in nsw even though all p platers in nsw have to display the plates.

Actually i beg to differ Ryan.

You stick to the conditions stated on your licence of the state that issued it to you.

Think about it.

If you go to South Australia on a QLD licence, by your theory, you would be allowed to drive what ever you like, despite the authority giving you permision to drive stating that you cant.

Also, anyone on an existing QLD provisional licence, would have to wear P plates if they went into nsw and stick to the 90k rule that they have down there.

So for the sake of the OP...

When you are in NSW, you do the speed limit posted for that road.

Do not worry about 90 km/h restrictions placed on NSW p licences.

I would say you have to based purely when I went to NSW when i was on my P's (and before QLD had to display P plates) by law i was suppose to display P plates... So i would assume you would have to stick to the speed limit to

As per Shane initially, yes, you must abide to local road rules (not that it makes much of a difference anymore because it's based off a International standard), but you must follow the restrictions placed on your licence by the issuing State.

So no you do not have to abide by the NSW Provisional speed limits, nor technically do you have to display your plates on the outside. HOWEVER, NSWPol officers tend to get confused as to the rules and try and fine you anyway, so for the sake of convenience, display them on the outside.

Vice versa applies for a NSW P Plater travelling to QLD. Even though they're in QLD, they must still abide by their speed restrictions, still have the plates on the outside etc. If they went to SA, they still cannot drive a HPV and so forth.

you do have to abide by their rules p plates on outside of the car and do what there p plates have to do. qld p plater and learners have been pinged for doing the speed limit and not displaying plates on out side of car. read road ahead magazine there has been many circumstances where qld drivers have been done for not following nsw road rules.

rookie rox learn the road rules for each state if you want to say that we dont have to abide by other states rules.

put your p plates on the outside but stick to the speed limit if a cop pulls you over let him now that in QLD you dont have speed restrictions in place then he will say "oh ok i didn't know that but be careful doing it coz other coppers might find it as an excuse to get out of a speeding fine so drive very carefully"

when i was on my P's without p plates in QLD i went for a drive down to NSW and thats what he said to me

he also ripped of the Queensland state of origin side and said our licenses look cheap like the footy team hahaha

So, you're saying that if you only abide by the rules of the State or Territory you're in, if you as a P1 licence holder travel to the NT, you can drive whatever car you want, don't have to display any plates and can drive with as many passengers as you please at any time?

Gee, I wonder why. Oh wait, I KNOW why. It's because you abide to the conditions of your licence. Not doing more than 100km/h on your P1's is NOT a road rule. It's a condition of your NSW P1 licence. That condition does not apply to any other licence holder in any other State or Territory who holds a similar type of licence.

i spoke to rta and qld transport bout this as i was confused. hmmm so maybe i have actual facts numnuts. and i spoke to a couple of different managers from each transport department. as i drove to sydney and didnt want to get done for anything. in fact you could go to s.a and drive a fully sick wrx bro...... but if your brought it back and got done here you would get done by our police for driving it

Police don't make any laws, they enforce it how the interpret it from legislation.
Ive called transport up a few times in the past with the same query and had many different answers, the only way to be sure is call transport and get them to fax through the legislation they are using to answer your question and keep it in your glove box to show mr police man if he pulls you over.

I'm not having a go, or taking sides as I don't know the answer. All I'm saying is if you call up qt 3 different times you will often get 3 different answers. So with out that fax I wouldn't trust a word they say.

You are right in saying that it's not a blatantly obvious rule, correct. The problem is, you've been told the wrong information because of it.

No, if you're on a P1 or P2 licence anywhere down the east coast and travel to a State or Territory without vehicle restrictions, you CANNOT go and drive whatever you want, because your licence specifically prohibits you from doing so. But seeing as you're so content on not believing me, how about this little thing that might change your mind

Nah man, if thats so i woulda been caught too, i recently drove down to sydney from brisbane on the christmas holidays im on my L's so i would have had to follow the 80km/h rules but i didnt i did 110 in the zones etc and nothing happend. being xmas time i passed a few cops aswell.
