as the title say I am designing my own brake kit and am looking for some QLD legal big calipers.
originally i was going to cannibalise a late model caliper onto my car but if you cut grind or drill a caliper it is not legal.. fair enough.
wilwood are an option but there is some argument that they are illegal, some say due to no adr approval some say due to lack of piston seal dust boots (even thought HSV AP calipers apparently dont have boots either).
so if not wilwood who else? I am on a budget so AP and Alcon are out for the moment.
im looking for about 60 square cm's pad area and around 22.5 square cm's piston area.
it will go on a 1990 GT Four running DBA 5000 series 330mm rotors

All the ST series of Celica calipers are fairly interchangeable - you do need to do a little bit of dicking around to get the rotors on though (machined out centre bore, small spacer ring, etc). The ST205 (315x59) used one of the biggest factory optioned brakes (apart from the JZA80TT), so I'd be looking at a full set of them - with good pads and a refresh of the entire brake system, that is more than enough brake ability for 99% of cars on the road.

ve ss calipers work well and are cheap for a set. We used them with a 330mm rotor on a bmw e36

i have been looking for brembo's of a falcon or the like etc but most come up and cost more than a decent set of wilwoods.
have a new question is 1/8npt thread legal in brakes? i have heard that it is illegal as it uses threads to seal the joint not washers or flares like banjo and inverter flare joints?

oh and 205 brakes wont legally fit (IE un-modified caliper) unless you run a 345mm rotor which then will not fit under a 17" wheel. i have a full 205 kit sitting at home that the fronts are now useless, rears are a bolt on.
currently looking at wilwood calipers with dust seals before calling it quits and making do or winning lotto to pay for the AP kit ($4.4K)

check out the rally forums for evo brembos, alot of guys have to go back to the smaller brakers so they can run the 15" wheels and rally tyres. and evo owners seem to sell them cheaper than all the ford/holden ones you see on ebay and such.
