Hey all
in the 1st 2 months of next year i am intending on buying a VY or VZ SS (depending on the price).
i have done some research on the LS1 engine n aftermarket mod's u can fit to them.
i am keen on supercharging it.
I am hoping for the car to run in the high 11's low 12's thats what i'd b happy with.
i will probably go with:- Head and Cam package, Air intake, Extractors n Exhaust, supercharger and LS1 edit. but i want the car to sound like a real V8 so any info on good exhaust.
just wondering if there is an easy way to go about getting a LS1 commodore to get down to low 12's high 11's??
would doing the Head and Cam package, Air intake, Extractors n Exhaust, supercharger and LS1 edit get it down there??
i know i'll also have to do brakes and suspension, anybody know an easy upgrade for brakes and suspension??
thanks

Given that with exhaust, OTRAI, Ls1 edit (hp tuners) you can get a car down to the low 13's when you then add to that a set of diff gear you are pushing high 12's.

with the combo that you are proposing without the Super charger I would say you will be pushing a low 12 high 11. If you want to find ouut what is possible go see the guys at PT they will tell you what you would need to do to get it there, but I have a feelign that is all that you need. I hope you have deep pockets though as it wont be cheap putting a super charge on there. 5-6+g for install and tune.

i got a VY SS ute and gettin an exhaust soon.
ive looked at every god dam exhaust system ever made for a LS1
and im going with Tri-Y pacemaker extractors with HPC coating,
2 hi-flow metal cats and a duel 2.5inch stainless difilippo system.
average cost including new O2 leads... $3500.

but if ya dont wanna spend that much, ya can drop the hpc coating
and get mild steel exhaust, which will save ya $1000 or more.

G&D performance have got packages for high 11 sec runs.
with exhaust system, air induction kit, and retune with diff gears.
no supercharging needed.
they also do a supercharger kit that will give ya a 10sec flat. sweeeet.

yeah i've seen the G&D performance ad's in the street machines commodore mags.
exhaust wise i want it to sound like a real V8 i saw one from the brock shop which was 3500$ for 35kw but i want it to be done right so it'll b my target/project all of next year getting the car quicker n quicker.
walkinshaw performance have a supercharger kit fitted for $9,990 so i also looked at that.
but with the exhaust i really want the V8 sound thats the main target n if a lumpy cam needs to go in aswell i'll do that too with a head n cam pack

mate go talk to the fellas at hi torque performance: http://www.hi-torqueperformance.com.au/.

They on the gold coast. mate of mine has VX SS and got cam, diff and MAFless tune done.

It is now f**king fast, sounds lumpy. as he hasnt taken down the quarter yet but the guy at the shops reckon he'll be running low 12's high 11's.

He already had SS inductions cold air intake on it and a brock shop exhaust system and extractors.

Mate of mine had an sv8, did exhaust, computer remap and 3.7 diff gears and ran 12.6s. put in a cam and you'll crack an 11.

yeah i've heard all these stories of quick times just gotta work out wat everyones done lol
but i really want it to sound like real V8 thats my main thing it'll b an ongoing project so money ain't really a problem i'll just save up but i want a good loud exhaust on it.
just does anyone kno how much playing with diff gears costs??
i dunno if i'm gonna go VY/VZ SS or a VY Clubby yet depends on what is at the right price in january/feb next year

New cam, MAFless tune, 3.9 diff gears will set you back about $3900 but its well worth the money, youll feel the power as well as hear it.

$4000 isn't that much lol
cause in the end i'll b spending money on
exhaust, intake, LS1 edit, cam (maybe head n cam package), diff gears n a supercharger.
if i get an SS i'll do brakes and suspension. but if i find a clubby at the right price i should b right i think?
but i'll b spending a bit of money on it lol alot of my money will go into it.

Well if you are seriously going to be bolting a blower onto an LS1 and the mods you listed above you will not have any problems at all getting mid - high 11's.

I looked at forced induction for my VY SS (also my daily driver) but there is no way in hell that it is a viable option. I am sticking with the usual bolt ons. I am in the process of finding a cam package.

Also, with your air intake, don't go with SS inductions, instead look at the OTRCAI after you get your MAFless tune.

Mine currently has pacemaker extractors with a twin 2.5'' system. Believe me when I say it sounds like a V8 tongue.gif

If you are after a street weapon, you don't need forced induction...the LS1 responds very well to bolt on mods. Make sure you change the diff gears so it puts that power to the ground.

In all seriousness, check out the LS1 forum, it is loaded with info.

just watch out for OTRCAI's as the filter on them is tiny and they have been known to let water past and straight into your engine.

Have a look at the mods listed on my last VY http://nathan.boostcruising.com . You are looking at a high 12 low 13's with that setup.
Here is what it sounded like http://images.cainer.net/uploads/exhaust2.wav

Checkout www.ls1.com.au , you will find alot more information on the lsX engines.

I currently have another VY in the shop at the moment getting fitted with twin Garrett 2876r's, cam and all the rest of the goodies. Cant wait to drive it...

thanks guys
nathan i did look at the twin turbo setups (seeing they have been fetured in the last 2 street machines commodore specials) but a full setup is about 15,000 (with clutch n fuel system) but maybe with a different car in the future.
but currently i've been in contact with hi-torque performance (as mentioned above) n i will be going so far with a package to run probably low 12's including
1: twin 2.5 exhaust system with no cats and no rear muffler and genie
4into1 extractors $1900 or add $700 for Hi-Flow cats
2: Cam package supplied fitted and tuned (comp cam and springs, new front timing seal and replace crankshaft bolt, vcm tuned) $3100
3:Over the radiator prices vary as does avialbility approx$400-700
4: diff gears 3:9 supplied and fitted $ 1150
5: ripshifter supplied and fitted $ 615.00
n with that setup on their car they are running an 11.7
so i will be doing for somethin like that next year aslong as it sounds nice n runs how commdores should i'll b happy.
(nathan your old commodore sounds mean i like it lol)

What about the GEN T Turbo kit? (I think thats what it's called) was featured in Zoom maybe a year or so ago now. They made some very impressive figures, and all on a stock bottom end with 6psi.

i'm not gonna go with a turbo.
costs a bit of money n the single turbo kit i saw they shreaded a couple of gear box's (they were auto box's but even did some turbo 400 box's) so i don't want to many dramas like that
plus i want a bit of a challenge but if i'm going forced induction it will b a supercharger
