The Yokohama World Time Attack Challenge 2014 will be the biggest and most exciting yet. WTAC is a full-on action-packed two day event with time attack racing, drift racing, a huge parts and tuning trade show and much more. The stars of the show are of course, the Time Attack Cars. There are cars from various leading manufacturers including Nissan, Toyota, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Honda, Subaru and much more. All the cars are highly modified, and creatively modified, due to flexible rules which breed variety and innovation. 2014 will be no different with many motorsport superstars set to return including Nob Taniguchi, double World champion Tarzan Yamada, and for the first time ever we will have the popular Japanese star Max Orido competing in the time attack segment of the event. The World Time Attack Challenge will be held at Sydney Motorsport Park (Formerly Eastern Creek Raceway) on Friday 18th and Saturday 19th October 2013. For more information see the World Time Attack website. 2013 saw the introduction of tighter rules governing the Yokohama World Time Attack Challenge. The new WTAC rules allow greater safety for competitors, a level playing field and ensure the expensive aero modifications don't get out of control. In the interests of fair competition, a Control Tyre Rule was implemented to allow everyone to compete on the same tyre and maximum tyre limits reward good tyre management rather than large cheque books. In the Clubsprint class, all competitors use ADVAN Neova AD08R which is our high performance street tyre. Whereas Open and Pro/Pro-am class competitors use ADVAN A050 our R-spec race tyre. 2014 also sees the new exciting introduction of a one-make class just for the popular R35 GTR. The R35 GTR vehicles in the Pro Class will use our full slick A005 tyre (290/710R20). Yokohama Tyre Australia has been a sponsor of time attack racing and a partner with the promoter Superlap Australia since the first Superlap event at Oran Park in 2008. In our seventh year of helping promote and grow this event Yokohama is not only providing support to the event organizer and overseas teams but also extending assistance to the competitors. Over the years we have seen many international competitors make the long trip down under to compete at the thrilling block-buster event. Manabu “Max” Orido will team up with the Re-Amemiya rotary team to pilot their ‘Hurricane’ Mazda RX7. Let’s not forget the inspirational privateer entry from Under Suzuki in the Scorch Racing S15. While Suzuki-san only finished 4th in 2013; he received one of the loudest cheers by the crowd last year which just goes to show how popular the ADVAN sponsored driver is. Suzuki-san returns this year with a wealth of knowledge and refinements to his S15. He will be one to watch that’s for sure. The reigning champ, the Tilton Interiors Mitsubishi Evo driven by Garth Walden is also back to defend their title. The Tilton guys staged an epic fight back to win the Yokohama World Time Attack Challenge of 2013 with a lap time of 1:24.855. A faster time than the one set by the Nemo Evo in 2012. A lap time many thought couldn't be beaten by a car other than Nemo. But lap records are set to be broken and there are a fleet of hungry competitors ready to take it to the Tilton Interiors team come October 17 and 18.
