that's what modifying a car is though, sticking bits on. it doesn't neccesarily make those modifcations tasteful / end result. I tend to prefer something a bit more extreme than just purchasing something off a shelf, and seeing the owner do the work themselves, if they're able. just like I do a fair amount of work on my car. silly story time - I spent an hour yesterday restoring the cigarette lighter on my car - cleaning all the old ash off it to make it look like new, repainting the white display overlay and figuring out why it didn't stay sprung in etc. this was all an end result of having imported a centre bezel panel from the united states this year, so I could actually get the lighter working for the first time in the 19 years that I've owned the vehicle. plus a few other parts that I needed, like a digital clock, that never came out here in Australian based vehicles. stuff like this is all a part of taking pride in your vehicle. You are very much like my son in that respect Alpha,I have just spent the last two days on the farm, helping (I do the welding) adapt his latest radiator (third one) to his beetle. This one is an all aluminium racing one that is slightly larger than the Alfa one,to handle the Airconditioning heat more easily. He also fitted a newer gearbox,as the old one was getting a bit ordinary, because a 2.5 Litre Subie motor puts out a few more ponies than a 1600cc DakDak |

I have the workshop and skills to do any modifications to any vehicles, but I choose to go down the as new original rare vehicle path or mods that cannot be seen, it all comes down to individual taste. Mine is towards cars you can drive at their full potential within a tight budget. |

Oh there was plenty of photoshop involved... but the rail track shots look completely over the top because of the way I light painted the car... I missed the ground so couldn't blend it in properly and as a result the car looks like it's be stuck into the picture ![]() yeah, they just looked a bit off. mind you I thought that the car had been shopped into the picture, not just the bottom half. ![]() You are very much like my son in that respect Alpha,I have just spent the last two days on the farm, helping (I do the welding) adapt his latest radiator (third one) to his beetle. This one is an all aluminium racing one that is slightly larger than the Alfa one,to handle the Airconditioning heat more easily. He also fitted a newer gearbox,as the old one was getting a bit ordinary, because a 2.5 Litre Subie motor puts out a few more ponies than a 1600cc DakDak that's something that I can appreciate, and it's one of the things that the older generation has over the younger generation of modifiers (imo), that ability to do custom fabrication work. I remember people saying - of the 2011 floods, compared to the 1974 floods, that one major difference was peoples abilities to do their own renovation works rather than having to rely on trades people as happens now. those skill sets are declining, same as people who do their own fab work.. I finished work around 8:30, came home took Turbo for a walk, came inside and thought fcuk i've walked seriously fast that time, was sweating big time, then i checked my phone ![]() Was 38 here during the day lol |

It will be off the chain when they get into 3d printing, I'm calling that as the biggest game changer of the past 30 years, watch the developments from that in custom fab etc. I prob have a GTR invested in tools and equip, lol |

I finished work around 8:30, came home took Turbo for a walk, came inside and thought fcuk i've walked seriously fast that time, was sweating big time, then i checked my phone ![]() Was 38 here during the day It's still 23 degrees at 6am this morning Drav, and windy, looks like Scone is a fairly windy place, but it's good to see those rain icons,in the forecast, looks like the east coast is in for some, long awaited rain ![]() that's something that I can appreciate, and it's one of the things that the older generation has over the younger generation of modifiers (imo), that ability to do custom fabrication work. those skill sets are declining, same as people who do their own fab work.. lol He can weld, and is pretty good on a TIG,but at present,we only have a stick welder, and when it's structural,I feel better doing it,as I have more experience using one.Welding is the sort of skill, where you learn the basics, then it's just practice,we had a TIG ,but you have to use it fairly regularly,to keep them operating properly, where as a stick welder, you can stick in the cupboard (like a two stroke mower) and pull it out when you need it.Their only downfall,is you're dealing with a flux coated rod.Why I had a chuckle, was that you are prepared to spend the time getting things operating again, and enjoy the end result.I've seen my son pull all of the tumblers out of a 40 year old door lock barrel, and change them around,so that he only had to use one key,I certainly wouldn't have the patience QUOTE i'm a bit blase regarding rotaries, after having bought various magazines for the last 20 years / been in the scene for that long, and this, the pile of VW magazines, that have been read so many times, that he knows which one to go to,for a set article (and I bet you're the same) I kind of like this timewarp pic he did ![]() |
