Anyone who doesn't need to be in the area is asked to avoid it.

this was a warning issued by RFS deputy commissioner Rob Rogers @ Sydney.

I'd have said that should cover Sydney in general at all times. mamoru.gif

Oh there was plenty of photoshop involved... but the rail track shots look completely over the top because of the way I light painted the car... I missed the ground so couldn't blend it in properly and as a result the car looks like it's be stuck into the picture smile.gif

that's what modifying a car is though, sticking bits on. it doesn't neccesarily make those modifcations tasteful / end result.

I tend to prefer something a bit more extreme than just purchasing something off a shelf, and seeing the owner do the work themselves, if they're able. just like I do a fair amount of work on my car.

silly story time - I spent an hour yesterday restoring the cigarette lighter on my car - cleaning all the old ash off it to make it look like new, repainting the white display overlay and figuring out why it didn't stay sprung in etc. this was all an end result of having imported a centre bezel panel from the united states this year, so I could actually get the lighter working for the first time in the 19 years that I've owned the vehicle. plus a few other parts that I needed, like a digital clock, that never came out here in Australian based vehicles. stuff like this is all a part of taking pride in your vehicle.

You are very much like my son in that respect Alpha,I have just spent the last two days on the farm, helping (I do the welding) adapt his latest radiator (third one) to his beetle. This one is an all aluminium racing one that is slightly larger than the Alfa one,to handle the Airconditioning heat more easily. He also fitted a newer
gearbox,as the old one was getting a bit ordinary, because a 2.5 Litre Subie motor puts out a few more ponies than a 1600cc DakDak

I have the workshop and skills to do any modifications to any vehicles, but I choose to go down the as new original rare vehicle path or mods that cannot be seen, it all comes down to individual taste. Mine is towards cars you can drive at their full potential within a tight budget.

I don't hold it against some guy who cannot do the work on his own car, but while trying to objectively look at, or discuss an issue, or mod about a car and someone pipes up "my mechanic said", they can take their bromance to their gyno. Just not worth discussing if you haven't at least done you own research or are just some magazine drone hero worshiper.

I have seen so many fads come and go, the amount of cars I have bought and spent months pulling all the aftermarket stuff off, flogging it off at swap meets, selling the car as a restored classic, only to see it get all the bling added back on. Pro street was the mostly fkd up era in the modified car, just a how to on destroying any ounce of usefullness of any car, like hotwheels gone mad. But mostly driven by tards who can just give it a squeeze only in a straight line, the idea of circuit racing or real drag racing scares them.

The last time i saw that GT-R it had the 08 factory bumper and kit on it. The later gen came out with the day time running lights.

that's something that I can appreciate, and it's one of the things that the older generation has over the younger generation of modifiers (imo), that ability to do custom fabrication work.

I remember people saying - of the 2011 floods, compared to the 1974 floods, that one major difference was peoples abilities to do their own renovation works rather than having to rely on trades people as happens now.

those skill sets are declining, same as people who do their own fab work..

Yep, I think the same too, very sad when my daughter starts year 8 and has to help the guys in ITD or manual arts in old fart speak, WTF is wrong with making the effort to teach kids skills, so I miss out on a golf day , fishing trip or bike ride, yet to see them make something from scratch of there own design is gold. It will be off the chain when they get into 3d printing, I'm calling that as the biggest game changer of the past 30 years, watch the developments from that in custom fab etc. I prob have a GTR invested in tools and equip, lol

it'll be a while yet before what 3d printers can make has the same structural integrity as what's made atm. that's when it'll really take of though.

reminds me of star trek / replicator.

He can weld, and is pretty good on a TIG,but at present,we only have a stick welder, and when it's structural,I feel better doing it,as I have more experience
using one.Welding is the sort of skill, where you learn the basics, then it's just practice,we had a TIG ,but you have to use it fairly regularly,to keep them operating properly, where as a stick welder, you can stick in the cupboard (like a two stroke mower) and pull it out when you need it.Their only downfall,is you're dealing with a flux coated rod.Why I had a chuckle, was that you are prepared to spend the time getting things operating again, and enjoy the end
result.I've seen my son pull all of the tumblers out of a 40 year old door lock barrel, and change them around,so that he only had to use one key,I certainly
wouldn't have the patience

The spiders love it,VK so many nooks and crannies to build webs. The thing that hit me is the Ponytail, you cant see it in the top photo,it shows above the roof of his Bug in the bottom, but now it's huge,we have a couple in pots, but this thing is now four odd foot across at the base
