This ^^^^

There is nothing better then an original, that sounds amazing!

The plan is to keep the exterior "period correct" same with the interior which is going to be redone in simlar materials as the original, possibly a little extra bolstering and support in the front bench, she's soft as f**k atm. But under the bonnet, I'm wanting something nice. I just need to find a motor that will run both gas and petrol and get it tuned correctly. And find a way to hide all the hideous bits of the gas conversion...

Why Gas?

BAM!

It's already all plumbed up and certifed for gas, and the way petrol prices are, it's going to be a killer running on petrol all the time.

Probably retarded as fook question to ask, but looking for a 308 or 350 short motor. Where is the best place to pick them up from. Probably second hand, unless someone knows of somewhere where I can pick one up new relatively cheaply.

Its not a retarded question to ask - its the exact reason why we have a pre-85 section!

Seriously, if you're thinking of putting an 8 in buy a diff to go in too !

My old HR snapped 8 axles between my 210 & 192ci motors as well as destroying 4 centers..

12 bolt on ebay

This should cost about $250 to freight up here 308 running on ebay

I dont have much faith in ebay moparguy. Been burned a few times too many to trust it anymore. Too many shady bastards trying to rip a few bucks from people.

Find a running 308 or 350 on either ebay or gumtree. Unless you want to buy a crate 350, you cannot buy either of them technically speaking, brand new.

is it going to be a daily? if not just piss the gas system off imo

^^ THIS ^^

My HR with 192, Twin Strombergs on LYNX manifold + M20 + 3.08 or 2.78 diff center = 28mpg

The old girl in '66 did 23mpg, do the math for L/100ks

1st 48mph @ 6800rpm

2nd 62mph

3rd 90mph

4th 130+

Was a Bathurst Torana M20 thumbsup.gif

28mpg with twin strombergs? Bullshit.

I put $20 in my kingswood and i get two trips to mcdonalds 5 minutes away and a stroll to the hyperdome. f**king ridiculous.

It needs a tune yes, but f**k, 28mpg is bs.

Edit: So your saying you get 44.8km to 3.78L? That equals 100km / 8.5l.

My '91 Rodeo is roughly 600km to a 55l tank, which is being a little on the low side (in the instance of stop start as opposed to straight highway), that works out at.. 100km / 9.1l. Theres no way a twin stromberg'd red motor would get shy of 600km to a tank of fuel, on the basis the fuel tank was 55l. No f'king way at all.

No bs, from a very vague but good memory the HRs factory spec was 23MPG

I filled up in Brissy, drove to Noosa then the Gold Coast & back home on 1 tank circa 1984. Did the math & was very happy.

The Bathurst M20s 4th was verrrrrrrrrry tall = 2800rpm at 62MPH, most likely with the 2.78 diff.

Ported head with matched /venturied >< & dowelled manifolds, Strombergs were actually matched down through the guts with BX-V2 bases,
Street XU-1 Cam grind (35/65?) tuned length extractors, electronic ignition + GT40 coil, 2" exhaust with a 18" reversed fluted Lukey
straight through muf in the center & a Kings 12" straight through after the diff.

So... No bs because my mechanic Barry Wessell & I did it at Bardon tongue.gif

Well on Christmas day i got to have a good look at out family heirloom my great grandfathers HG kingswood, for the last 8 years it has been sitting in a driveway uncovered in the Tasmanian weather. Before that it was in the hands of my father, he was in an accident and smashed the passenger front guard. I had a good look over the car Christmas day and i think its in great nick! The car is a sky blue with a white vinyl roof (vinyl removed) the exterior is straight as except for the passenger front guard, the car has rust in one of the doors and other than that it is mint its all original except in the past 8 years one of my cousins replaced the front bench with buckets and had the seats re trimmed, he also disconnected the column manual and converted it to a floor shift, But as Ive stepped up for he car another family member has baraged in and apparently wants the car, jealousy of course. So Hopefully ill be in possession of a 186 powered HG kingswood in the coming months.

You dont need to convince the family of such things. You simply... inform them.
