MX5 FOR YOU SON

lucky you having that much money for your first car, to me thats my uni tuition fees already... i agree with a modern hatchback, i started in an 06 mazda 2 when i was 17 on my p's, its not that good-looking nor fast but hey its cheap on fuel, sits 5 comfy (sorta) and get you from point A to point B...

and people are right when they say you still have to learn and be a better driver once you have your p's... im 19 now and still a p plater... i suggest get those new model mazda 2 or those new honda jazz... not too bad looking, safe, fuel-efficient, and hey you can even put a cannon just to make it sound "tough" if not a bmw if you wanna look fancy...

I've read no responses to this thread, only the original post and have this to say.

Your first car will likely end up FUCKED! Buy something MASSIVELY cheap and destroy it. Then when you get some automotive experience and respect, buy something you'll take care of.

You will do burnouts. You will skid around corners and roundabouts, you will hit something. You will ding something. You will get dinged by others. Pay as little as possible, fuck the shit out of it, then get something decent.
So true , listen to your old man buy a shitter for a couple of grand , get some experience up then go talk to mum . Something like a VR commy would do , bit of power and reasonably safe .

You didn't read. The kid has $1500 and the rest is mummy's money. They will only get the $16000 if they buy a car that's 1 year old.

LOL @ everyone thinking you'll fuck your first car. I didn't put a single ding on my first car. Just a couple of gutter scrapes on the wheels, heh. Owned it for 9 months after I got my license then I upgraded.

My advice is still take the more economical car, don't try and be hectic, get off your P plates then sell the car and get something more fully sick bro. By the way, girls aren't impressed by 20 year old pieces of shit, only your bogan mates. Just saying.

I never did a single thing to my first car either, but if OP buys said RWD can for "getting the back end out" and generally driving like a wanker, the chance of crashing car increases tenfold.

well if i add to statistics i should be dead in the next year or so. i already know driving is dangerous and i have already been close to crashing in the 3 or so weeks i have been driving, dad is a great driver and is teaching me well, not to worry smile.gif

You got your Learners 3 weeks ago, so I'm guessing you were around the dinner table talking about how you totally passed the 30 question test, and your mummy said she was going to give you some cash to buy a car because she is happy you passed the test first time...

After you found that out I guess you thought "I'ma jump on boooooost and see what awesome car I can get 12 months from now when I am going to purchase the car."

Maybe you need to hand in your Learner licence and tell them you will retake the test when you more mature.

and...

Both good choices, R31 cheaper for parts and cheaper to buy. JZA70 supra better looking, more stylish interior and duh TOYOTA

Pretty sure a JZA70 would have a JZ motor as the prefer would allude to.. rolleyes.gif

take the 5.5K and buy a manual commodore, enough power to "hang the ass out" rolleyes.gif and big enough to carry a few mates to the coast and parts are easy for when you crash and insurance isnt too bad either
im posting from experience wink.gif
edit: scratch that all!!
get a little front wheel drive car and drive that for the first year, you learn how to drive properly in an underpowered car, im so glad i drove my 1985 mazda 626 for the first year with all of its 60kw(i think mazda was a bit hopefull) cabied goodness smile.gif cleaned her up, converted her to manual and chucked some nice rims and tyres under it with a sports muffler and loved every second of it, took whatever i threw at it, took it up glorious a few times, drive it to bundy and back, took it to the tweed with all my wakeboad gear in the back, countles trips to the coast, get somthing small manual and fwd(your brain cant handle rwd yet) its the essence of driving, and getting a dunga and fixing it up youll love it and respect it alot more then a shiny car with a bow on it, i loved my little mazda, i STILL love my little mazda, so much so that i still have it in the shed and now my little brother is experiencing how great it is:) i consider myself a pretty good driver, but i attest most of that to that first year of learning how to make a slow car go fast smile.gif with track days and driving mountain roads you learn what its all about. so yeah dont try to be a red p hero and be the new "dk" just get a little car with a clutch pedal and a decent stereo and enjoy it
