They are, imagine being told (as a car enthusiast) you can't drive the cars you want through no fault of your own. There comes a point where you just need to get over it. I got my license 6 weeks after the new laws came in, how do you think I felt? I got over it and now own two "high-powered" cars. |

Really non turbo imports etc are all that is needed when you have your P's. I had a 5th gen celica till I got my opens (Still have it) and found it "fast /" enough for what it was intended for (daily driving / learning to drive a car properly) Finally after I got my opens I was able to step upto the big boys (Well not really I only have a Celica GT4) and all I can say is I would of killed or wrecked the car if I was able to go out and buy the GT4 / even more powerfull car most P platers want. |

But what annoys me still to this day, people like myself back then who still want imports but can't have a turbo model get chucked off at by the older car enthusiasts (driving a dead stock looking car or riceboy) many times I admired peoples "real deal" imports and classics but majority of the time they just told me to piss off because I was a p plater in a N/A car. Anyway I went a bit off topic and I'm probably a pussy so flame on. Yeah people and their egos.. |

Also, no the laws don't make sense. They were pushed through the system without a proper thought process given. This is in regards to turbochargers being used on newer and safer cars for better fuel econemy, not performance. Like the golf GTI. Generally speaking; Like most other things, politicians know fuck all about cars. So the pratical flaws within these laws that looked sound on paper didn't become apparent until it was too late. And you provided the reasoning to your argument in two sentences. Turbo's cars are easy to modify for more power, INCLUDING turbo diesels. Golf is a perfect example of that. |

They are, imagine being told (as a car enthusiast) you can't drive the cars you want through no fault of your own. They don't realise that it's for their own safety. As it has been said previously, its much easier to get a high powered car these days, compared to when I was a kid on my P's .... Things change, doesn't matter what it is , they just have to suck it up unfortunately.... Because I don't think things will change anytime soon , laws / restrictions are there for a reason, just deal with it .. they all feel entitled to everything. Yes, and they feel like the world owes them something... Now don't get me wrong, not ALL P Platers are like this, however the majority are. They also seem to get given alot of things these days, lucky them, but an example, one of my friends just bought her daughter a car .... she hasn't even got her p's yet. Also we had a father and daughter come in today. Father bought Daughter a brand new cruze and she is still on her L's .. I am sorry , but this shits me , a little ... I had to buy my own first car, no way would my parents buy me one. My first car was a shitbox , as was most of ours , with people my age. This is what this generation is about, i am sorry but they are given everything, and because of this, produces this attitude that they have ..... |

Something that provides similar performance to other higher-rated p-plate cars, like a non SIDI VE Commodore S. However, in doing this you need to make the laws enforceable, which in turn is another challenge in itself if Mr Plod has no idea what he's looking at. At the end of the day it's always going to be a grey area. It's not perfect, but the concept it's based upon; saving lives, is a sound one. |

Correct, which is why the rushed laws, whilst seemingly "unfair" and "interesting" in the nature of vehicles modified, is effectively doing the right thing. It would be interesting to see cold hard stats on before and after up until know, how many fatalities/serious accidents have been avoided. |

Something that provides similar performance to other higher-rated p-plate cars, like a non SIDI VE Commodore S. umm hate to tell you this but sidi doesnt give it a better performance edge sure it gives a few more kw but it doesnt make em go much better and when you do sink the boot in kiss those fuel efficancy figures good bye .and its not new technology by any stretch, many european cars have used this under different names for years. i have found the new sidi commodore to be very harsh in the engine witch for a modern car excessive vibration under acceleration ( in a car with less than 5000km on the clock) is pooralso i found it performed no better than a vt with 200,000+ ks on it . Spark Ignition Direct Injection is what it stands for , basically it means the computer times the spark properly and it has direct injection... sure its a first for an australian car , but its nothing new And grossly over-rated. I know a few people who rushed out to get new commodores thinking they would get awesome fuel economy only to be greatly disappointed, even the ones that drive like nannas. |

mate i had one for 2weeks n got rid of it , it was a peice of crap. my old el xr6 isnt that harsh under acceleration that fuel consumption figure they came up with is based on average speed of 80kph on a highway cycle if you read the fine print with 2 people on board and no luggage not a typical aussie family on holidays ! i get average of 9.5l per hundred on the highway in the xr6 if i drive carefully. |
