Which does raise another question...will it be fine in those plastic petrol can's you get? Or am I better to get can's? I ask as I have no idea how the ethanol would react with plastic ![]() from my limited knowledge on the stuff, i'd say it would go to shit fairly quickly, ethanol 'soaks' up the water in air and turns milky doesnt it?? i remember doing a carby rebuild once and it had been run on e10, and there was all this white residue shit from ethanol, not jizz |

so to run this shit, i cant just get my relatively stock chaser tuned for it and bobs your uncle? ill need fuel lines, injectors, pump etc? Assuming your stock fuel pump and injectors dont have 30% extra flow in them - yes you would need to upgrade them. As for fuel lines - some models of car will need upgraded teflon lines or the like while others may be fine with just upgraded pump and injectors. I would consider a fuel cooler when changing to e85 too. Given Australia's hot ambient temps in summer, a tank half full of hot e85 may be more dangerous than petrol in some cars. |

It raises the question, if its only the performance tuned / orientated cars buying it, how often is it going to be filled @ the servo? The longer it sits, the lower the %...... It's an option on the VE's, just needs to be enabled by the dealers. Pretty sure there are a few other Euro's that are factory-enabled to use it. |

Warney, unless your engine was built for it, don't run it. You will lose power and run lean. I'm using it because I'm aiming for 10:1+ comp and 25psi-boost, something I doing you'd ever achieve on pump gas. Any idea what octane this is? Is it shit fuel mixed with ethanol to make a decent octane rating or is it premium mixed with ethanol to make 106+ octane Does not make one bit of sense. So you are using it because of your uber compression and high boost but you don't know what octane it is. good luck with that. |

I obviously DO know what octane E85 + premium is, if you read the rest of the post you would realise that I am referring to the octance rating of 'flex-fuel' varying on what it's mixed with. Been doing a heap of fuel testing over the last twelve months. I have tested CSR E85 it's a great fuel, this brand is the fuel supplied to the V8 super car team so it has a guaranteed 108 RON and i have had no consistency issues. I have also tried a 50/50 ethanol blend, 50/50 methanol blend both of which performed well and lasted in the car for well over a month with out going off or sucking litres of water into the tank. |

I have been talking with some of the suppliers for both Csr and Elf E85 and they tell me that Qld will only be getting 98 RON E85 at the pump so maybe it's not time to get excited just yet. What you buy in a barrel for between $2.50 and $3/ltr is a totally different product to what we are getting at the pump, as others have mentioned consistency will be a problem and in the long term those servo's that don't take care if their tanks properly will have issues. No offence, but quite obviously 2 suppliers of e85 products are hardly unbiased in commenting on e85 octane rating at a pump. I reiterate my earlier post: unless there is some hugely disproportionate effect of the 15% that isnt ethanol, I cant see how the RON of pump e85 could be that low. |

I'll be getting my 300zx tuned for E85. As others have already stated, you need to upgrade your fuel delivery system. My tuner advised that standard injectors in most cars are not suitable either due to not flowing enough or ethanol eating their seals. Sard injectors and o-rings have been tested and are ethanol compatable. |

I'll be tuning the big block to E85 but with a mixture of Avgas at this stage to ensure it maintains its "potency" from the pump Unless you know someone in the aviation industry, toluene is easier to get and you can't be pinged by the fuzz for using it. You also need alot less of it than avgas to achieve the same results. |
