Warney, unless your engine was built for it, don't run it. You will lose power and run lean. |

I'm using it because I'm aiming for 10:1+ comp and 25psi-boost, something I doing you'd ever achieve on pump gas. Any idea what octane this is? Is it shit fuel mixed with ethanol to make a decent octane rating or is it premium mixed with ethanol to make 106+ octane Im pretty sure its 104 to 106 octane rating, as its been down in melbourne for fucking years (fuck qld is slow with moving forwards) and im sure its on the ford forum(or alike) about what octane rating it is! |

sooo, NOT BEING UP TO DATE so to speak on this " FUEL" you speak of. What are the benifits of the E85 over the other premium fuels? Looking at buting an STI at the moment and hearing a lot of " Needs to run 95 " and the like. So is this 85 better than 95? If so why? |

yes it is just 85% ethanol blended. It is what V8 Supercars run on. QUOTE sooo, NOT BEING UP TO DATE so to speak on this " FUEL" you speak of. There's a huge difference though mate. Shit fuel + ethanol was expected to have an octane rating of only 95, while premium along with ethanol was meant to be around 106. No reason at all I can't run the compression and boost I want, fuel will take care of pinging and I'm planing on running an O-ringed block, ARP studs and a half inch girdle. |

I think youll find you wont be able to run fuckall timing with that much compression... But feel free to try prove that wrong butt.... All comes down to tuning mate, I have no concerns about it at all. Ten years ago any boost at all at that was completely unheard of, I know people running similar boost figures and compression without a single issue. |

The guys on hardtuned.net swear by this stuff in their SR20s. Although most of them have been buying from UNITED Fuels I think. |

What are the requirements needed to be changed to run E85 to most potential and what is the complete benefit over it opposed to Octane 98? Depends on how tuned your car is. But at least some fuel system upgrades are required. I think you need at least about 30% larger injectors of course a large fuel pump. Because Ethanol does attract water if you are constantly running it you will need to upgrade you fuel lines to stainless steel or corrosive resistant items. But IMO the benefits far out weigh the cost. |

Warney, unless your engine was built for it, don't run it. You will lose power and run lean. May I ask why? Built for it in what terms? E85 (the good shit) will make gains on any setup when tuned for it. In fact, there is generally an easy 30-40rwkw being had by most SAU members (with the subsequent ability of more boost and timing)... stock Rb's (internally) Just remember guys, it also burns quicker. Make sure your pump and injectors have some breathing room to run this fuel. 30% seems to be the accepted figure |

There's a huge difference though mate. Shit fuel + ethanol was expected to have an octane rating of only 95, while premium along with ethanol was meant to be around 106. Given that the regular petrol component is only 15%, I find it hard to see it will make much difference if it is 91 95 or 98 unless there is some hugely disproportionate effect going on. What I am more worried about is the variability of the ethanol content of the e85 sold. If there is seasonal variation of something like 70-85% ethanol I would not have confidence tuning with it and then just filling up normally. I have been keeping an eye on e85 chemical test kits which would be a simple way to measure ethanol % in each batch of pump e85 you buy. Then you could measure: a) at the pump before you fill up or ![]() There are a few online (from USA) that are pretty cheap and no more complicated than swimming pool test kits. Also, there is a facebook e85 group that has been watching this for ages. |
