On a few other car forums I've seen a few build threads. On these threads the user posts up photos, information and anecdotes regarding their car and the modifications that they have installed. I enjoy reading the build threads, to see the way a car is transformed through out its time in the possession of the user. Here is an example of one:

I'm not aware of any build threads on Boostcruising (if there is please let me know, I am quite new to the site) and I thought it might be a good idea to open a section for these. What do you guys and girls think?

Thanks mate, I thought it would be a good idea for new section, they generally make for a good read.

My one on OzHonda is about 120pg long and about 80,000 views now.

Its a good idea, and I've thought about bringing it up in the past, however you have to remember, there are so many members on this forum, it would be a DB nightmare. You'd get fuckwits who'd abuse it, and in honestly the members rides section is kind of a build thread section anyway, kind of.

If a sub forum was created, for only paying members to have a build thread (say in the technical section), I think that would sift through a lot of the BS build threads.

My 2c.

I agree with this idea.

I also disagree with Brad about memebers rides being like build threads.

Many times I have seen people post a new member rides thread to post an update on their project only to get flamed that their car hasn't changed enough.

I think this would fix the problem and bring the site's standards to a new level.

I would also like to add that most other car forums have this feature.

Build threads work fine on other sites......this site needs one... flamers should have a harsh penalty in this area to deter..

Its a good Idea, But I have to agree with brad about how much it could become a problem with people abusing it.

Eg. people that find it necessary to do a build thread for their car, and then swap said car 2 weeks after buying it & do another build thread for the next car.

Although brad is correct in that you would get lots of crap if you opened it up to everyone, making people pay to put up their build is pretty rubbish, lots of good builds would be missed out on because the person building diddnt want to waste their coin simply to have the ability to type up hours of information about their build.

Perhaps have it so mods have to allow the individual build thread (like mod review) so that the time wasters get weeded out and the long term/intresting builds get put up. although id imagine this would be a pretty significant extra work load at the start with every tom dick and harry putting up rubbish.

Having it open to everyone could work similar to the members rides where the good stuff hangs around up the top and any rubbish is quickly ignored.

Lots of good ideas here, I agree about the problem of the potential BS build threads, but I do not think you should have to pay to spend hours working on a thread. So what happens now? Does Mcleod or Nathan or someone read this and this then consider making a new section and discuss the pros and cons etc. then get back to us?

Agreed, if i could create a build thread with my car from start to finish i would, but wouldn't waste my time at the moment due to too many dickheads in the members ride section & having to create a new thread everytime i wanted to update it because of the current system.

Thing is though about people paying it out.

It would be no fun to have a build thread and every update haters leave negative comments.

Would need to be moderated strongly.
I even had people giving me shit about my car in the photoshop section when I asked for a paint shop.

At the moment we have a system where mods are listed and a few photo's are put up and that is all, i think if people can see the history of a car and see what t came from and where it is today they will show alot more respect...

Build Thread is a good idea , a very good idea.

Would need to be very heavily moderated though I think, as you said to keep the dickheads out for abusing it and trolling it etc ..

Sounds like a good idea, all posts should be on a mod review though (Like the tech section)
