Hi guys, I know sweet fuck all about diff gears and what fits what so I thought I would ask you guys if you had an answer. Now my father in-law has a A9X and the diff if rooted and needs replacing. It is running a 10 Bolt Salisbury with 3.08 gears. Now my question is what diff gears will suit staying with a 3.08? Can I fit 5L commodre gears? Apparently it is the star gear that is smashed to bits, Can I buy that alone or buy a complete set of gears? Any help would be much appreciated. hey man, the A9X has the same salisbury they used in UC Toranas. It's the small salisbury from memory. So you could use the planetary gears (or complete diff) from that model, or any VB-VK 6cyl or 4.2l V8. The 5.0 VB-VK commos use the larger salisbury 10 bolt and you'll probably find they won't be quite the same. Chances are the pin that those gears are fixed to is worn and also the hemisphere. Best you look into a 4 pinion Borgwarner LSD hemisphere upgrade like the VL turbo/VN , he'll have trouble breaking that!!! The existing crownwheel and pinion are used in this upgrade normally. |

If it is the planetry gears which are broken he can get another carrier or rebuild the one he has. Provided the gearset is still ok and hasn't been damaged there is no need to change them. It sounds like your best bet would be to either pull the whole diff out and deliver to a diff shop, or send the whole car, either way not a job for someone who hasn't done it before. |
