Hey guys couple weeks ago I thought my box was slipping, wasn't selecting 1st, but would change to 3rd and 4th fine.

So I changed the fluid and filter and that was that. What I thought, problem solved.
Untill about 20 mins ago. Was driving fine, then stop at a set of lights and wouldn't go into fisrt ( 4 speed auto ) whether I would selected on the t bar or put my foot down, just stays in second.
If I turn the car off for 5 or so mins, it will be fine for the rest of the night.

Also for the last few months it's been shifting into 2nd fucking hard, enough to chirp 2nd around a corner.

So what could the problem be? Solenoid?

Also is starting to feel like its not fully engaged in first when I take off, until a second after take off.

its not solenoid - its the box. common problem in the 4 speed. if your trying to get out it cheaply should've used lucas stop leaks/stop slips auto trans fluid, works a treat. but by the sounds of it, your box is beyond a quick fix.

does it flare while driving?

It doesn't slip at all while driving. When it's in first it drives fine.

Fuck you. You were right. Trans specialist said its fucked. he said its on its last legs.

But on that note, he proceeded to tell me that ANY box from a VX onwards will fit my VZ and that my engine is sluggish too.

Not to sure on the gear box part. But I'm pretty sure they wont fit as VZ has an alloytec, and the VX-VY have eco.

Engine I know he is wrong about, as I have a faster 0 - 100 time than any stock VZ. ( claimed 8.7 on websites. ) I do it in about 8.2 depending on the air temp.
