have an s14 sr20det, on the rev's check it's an auto, but now i have it and it's a 5 speed manual, so obviously it's been converted, do i need a mod plate for that?
there's a plate on the front from T.I.C whoever that is and then Certificate Number:, Date:, Engine Type: etc...

No need for mod plate because it has factory options.

No mod plate needed for manual conversion. I asked the engineer about it when I got my seat rails mod plated in my S13, he said if they make them from factory on the same chassis it's not necessary.

Your in NSW then?

From my knowledge in the 'minitrucking' community I can tell you you might need a new mod plate.

T.I.C was doing dodgy engineering and all cars that he had engineered had to be reinspected.

But, if your car has been converted using everything from a manual s14, I cant see it being a problem getting it passed/mod plated.

If it's a factory manual box then no mod plate needed. You might need to fill out and hand in a change of vehicle particulars form for the government/insurance company's sake. But that's it.

ring up. i dont believe this is true. i think u need a mod plate ifr anything if changed from what is on your vehicles vin. if it went on what it had as factory optionsw then u could take out 6cyl and put v8s in most cars. or turbo a stock vl with no mod plate. anything thats changes fropm what your particular car came out with ( not someone down the road who has the same car has) requires mod plate.

it doesnt require a modplate if that model car had it as an option

This.

I just got my S13 mod plated in Tas (and I think its changed to be national?) and they said if the car didn't roll off the showroom floor with it, even if it was a factory option on the same model car, it HAS to get a mod plate now.

You can put a V8 into a factory 6 car. If it was an option, and IF you've upgraded the rest of the car to that option. (Suspension, breaks, ect)

He DOESN'T need a mod plate. He has a S14 with one S14 gearbox swapped for another. From what it sounds, you have an Australian delivered Corolla with a Japanese engine/gearbox combo. I'm not overly knowledgeable with Corolla series, but if AE82 Twin Cam's were released in Aus, you didn't need a mod plate either.

As usual You are 100% correct.

AE82 came with the 4age as a factory option. Thus now needing a mod plate for the conversion. Whoever mod plated the corolla, did so wrongly.

Also like mentioned NO mod plate required for an S14 to go manual.

You don't even need to inform dot at all as there is no record of transmissions on their database.
