hey guys,

im needing some advice.

im wanting to put an ecotec motor out of an auto vs commodore into my manual vp commodore. is there any changes i have to make to the ecotec or to my vp manual wiring loom, or should i use the vs auto wiring loom? any advice would be greatly appreciated, i know it wont give me much of a power gain but i have no license so it will give me something to do. also putting complete vs interior into my vp with leather seats. should add a bit of value to my car.

any advice and thoughts please

cheers ayden

dont think its as simple as fitting the vs motor and wiring loom, vs run a body control module whereas most vp's dont. youre either going to have to bypass the bcm with the vs engine computer and loom or some how splice the vs dash harness into your existing one with the body control module......................if your putting the vs interior in there and you have no license you should just swap absolutely everything over

a mate put a ecotec into his vp, all he did was extend a few wires in the engine bay and change a couple, unfortunatly did a big end straight up lol. and as the the interior im just swapping dashes over, ill have to use the vs wireing loom for behind the dash tho wont i? because the vs shits different.

whats the bcm do?

the bcm is there for security and requires a signal from the ignition key when turned on,the easiest way to bypass it for a conversion is to buy a memcal without security for the ecu then you dont need or have the hassel of wiring in the bcm, that way it makes it how your vp is now if that makes sense,if you need any help just pm me and can tell you what you need to know

Why do you want to put an ecotec motor in the VP? The swap is fairly straight forward. Engine, loom and gearbox. Also will have to get the memcal reprogrammed to bypass the the immobiliser.

I got a fair bit of info from JustCommodores forums when messing with Ecotec into VN..theres a guy there that mods the memcals too....BCM sucks really,as it works the immobiliser, and something to do with the key barrel(security wise)

I've done a couple now, I'm a big fan of using the VN/VP 808 ecu and modify the loom to suit the ecotec(very simple job, extend a couple of wires and tap the MAT into the ecotec manifold)
They will run on a standard ecu, but a retuned memcal makes a world of difference.

Mate to be honest I wouldn't swap a vp Buick for an ecotec, the ecotec is a very restricted engine toward the Buick, I'd just do a few mods to the buick and it will go far better then doing the conversion. That's just my opinion.

why not just do an l67.. My vr has an l67, i use an aftermarket computer with a vp harness. Pretty straight forward swap
