I installed the Garrett and also got a 3 inch dump pipe connected up, and when i hooked up the gauge it read at 4lb, now this is under full load at about 6 grand racing down the street.

Would this be because of the standard boost controller on a 180sx? being that the turbo is twice the size. Im installing a tap tomorrow, just curious if any of you could shed some light on this situation

thankyou.

and no hammering solutions will fix this either tongue.gif

Id assume its a new turbo?

Id be more inclined to say its got something to do with the wastegate actuator of the turbo, try using a bleed valve and see how you go.

yeah it is a new turbo and we're trying a bleed valve this arv after work, 4lb on a ca18 wouldnt make much power now would it

AmperSand
Post #5

No it wouldnt.

How quickly does it come on boost?

and how much did you pay for it?

Being a bigger turbo, technically it should take longer to spool. The fact that you are hitting a 4psi wall is interesting.

1. Is your actuator hose in good condition? I assume it would be replaced when the turbo was rebuilt?

2. Are you sure there are no leaks in the exhaust system? Can you hear any odd sounds: ie. rocks rattling in cat converter type sound?

3. STD boost controller prolly isn't designed to handle this kind of turbo, or the boost levels it's going to give you.

4. Computer might be holding you back. It mightn't like the new turbo's boosting patterns. Is the car surging?

arent you the guy that bought 'the brand new gt25 for $300'? if so, no wonder its struggling to come on boost wink.gif

man the turbo is perfect i assure you, It just hits 4 psi and the exhaust is in perfect nic, being that i had it done yesterday also, we're gonna have a fool around this arv, but im sure it has to do with the std controller, the gt25 is a lot bigger then the std t25, so it might just have to be bled, i shall find out 2nite, the mechanic and I are gonna fool around and race it up and down the street till we get it right smile.gif

thanks anyway guys. I just wanted to know if its possible that a bigger replacement could cause such a problem.

to use an old Nissan slogan, "Just wait till you drive it!" if it is GT series it should be running up in the 15-20psi bracket (thats the turbos efficency range) so on 4 psi it would be pretty hard to tell anything.

Not dissing you or anything dude, If it is a GT series turbo.. your gonna have a lot of fun..

But your friend isnt gonna like you much when he finds out i guess..

If its brand new, he'd have had to have paid at least $1700 for it.. poor bastard smile.gif

I have a GT25 fitted to my ca 180 and when it was fitted it ran 7psi the original turbo had 13psi no bleed valves nothin'. But fitted homemade switchable boost up to 12-13psi and once the car hits around 10psi it takes off pretty good. Hope you sort it out!
