Hi,

Is it good to change auto gear ('D' -> 'N') whenever you stop in front of signal ?

Or should I just leave it in drive mode ?

Your advice would be appreciated.

Cheers

Isnt any point really, thats why you have a fluid coupling commonly known as a torque converter smile.gif

it saves fuel doing that. vectras automatically change into nuetral when stopped with foot on the brake

I always put it in neutral. Normally end up revving the engine tongue.gif

Just a habit of when I used to drive a manual. I sometimes even go through the gears in an auto tongue.gif

How exactly does it do that? Perhaps if they have electronic controlled boxes with a sequencial setup or the like. Common misconception with auto's is that when the car is in gear and you put your foot on the brake the car disengages the gear so you can stop. It isnt true, the nature of the torque converter allows you to stop the vehicle with very little effort (a touch of the brake pedal to keep you stationary). The car is still very much in gear.

doesn't help you much if your unis are pretty rooted either, just puts more strain on them smile.gif

the only things manuals and autos have in common is they change gear ratios. there are no other similarites meaning they do not work anything like each other!!!! same as torque converter and clutches!!!! pretty much autos and torque converters are fuckin hard to visualise how they work!!!!
