I was having on look on http://www.redbook.com.au and it said that the AE86 Sprinters were all Carby's. Is this correct? and what is the engine code for them?

Incorrect. All Australian delivered sprinters were carby fed which was a 3ac (ae85 trueno)or 4ac (standard spec sprinter) however all JDM sprinters run 4AGE (EFI)

actually no not all AE86s were carby in australia..i believe that there was 60 genuine 4age powered models to be delivered to aus.

they go for about 6-8k

australian delivered version came with 4ac...

with the jap ones... (dont kill me if im wrong), i think the truenos were 4age and levins were 3ac? ?

but yes, the oz model was a single cam carby fed motor.

people give away the 3ac/4ac engines...so if your gunna swap to a 4age, dont even try n sell it, just throw it out...

as for the cost, the engines you can pick up for about $800 (not a halfcut) but i have heard the g/box is compatible, might wanna double check on that though! you can do nearly everything yourlsef except engineer cert it...i dont know costs but www.toymods.org.au will have it...

Was the carby on them any good?
I have been looking around and there don't seem to be many flip-up headlight versions in Australia. Is that true?
Also, if you were to put a Nissan Engine in it would it be more harder to get RWC for because the motor isn't the same as the manufacture?
Cheers

Ok i wont kill ya tongue.gif

the Levin was the hatch
the Trueno was the coupe

both came with 4age's

there is no such things as a RWD 4agze or 4age 20v in standard for, they can however be converted

as stated above, 60 or so JDM levins were brought in, all were white

in australia on the market, we only ever saw single cam carby fed dungas, basicly look in japan, at the ae85 levin, this is what we ended up with, carby, rear drum brakes, no lsd, non vented front brakes, non close ratio gearbox etc etc.

I dont think i missed anything smile.gif

Actually you did........ theres not a lot of truenos in Australia! tongue.gif Truenos fetch high money even in Japan. Your correct the Levin DID come with 4age as does the Trueno. The carbies on them are crap, the whole 4ac engine is better off being used as a boat anchor....... As for the Nissan Engine into Toyota thing im doing that at the moment. Apart from having to change a lot of stuff needs to be mod plated before you can register it........

At jamboree and also frequently at test n tunes at willowbank theres a sprinter with plates NIS-25 - its runs an rb25. Therefore you should be able to put one in, but make sure you speak to a reputable workshop first to make sure it'l be legal and all legit. Im not sure if NIS-25 lurks around this forum, if he does you'd wanna pm him. I've also heard he works at Autobarn Ipswich, not sure about that though. Fast car too, diallied in at 11.90 at Jambo, but didnt get to see him race as they shut him down cause he was leaking apparantly. From memory runs low 12's from test n tunes.

Incorrect,
Levin is the normal headlight version (most common over here)
Trueno is the popup headlight version (not many in australia)

Most of the AE86s you see in australia will be the hatch style (like in my signature) but some will be the Sedan style, this has nothing to do with it being a Trueno or levin.
The hatch is called a 3door and sedan like one is a 2 door

In Australia you are most likely to get a 3 Door Levin

Go here for verification:

He has researched this heaps and everything on that page is very correct, it lists all the different styles

NIS-25 does not work at autobarn ipswich and does not frequent these forums, he runs defiant motorsport and ran a 12.01@116mph. At the jamboree the car was over heating, so to cool it down they used ice on the cooler while it was parked up near the scrutineering sheds. While he was staging, it looked like he popped a radiator hose cause water was dripping on the track, thus kicking him off. Sif u get competent people working at Autobarn HAHAHA, most of them guys don't know fuck all.

actually that rb25 conversion is illegal..does not make the maximum capacity cut off. That car should not have been allowed on the road. Simple as that! As for doing the 4age conversion, pretty simple i think you can get that done for about 2000 (including the cost of the motor). As for 4agze...looking at about 4000+ to swap the SC. Having previously owned a 4age powered 86 and a 4agze 86, i would go for the 4agze swap anyday. Much better sorted motor. Of course if you want NA power, you can always run a set of side draught del'ortos..which sound absolutely awesome..that way you are free to change compression and cams without to much trouble at all. Headers for the 4age and the 4agze can be had for about 250 if you know the right people, so there shouldnt be any hassels. Yeah like Jusdrifn 86 said, trueno is pop up lights and levin is fixed (normal) lights. Both came with 4age power plants. No 86 rolled off the factory with a 4agze or 20v motor.

Hi,
Just wondering that I notice on most of the HPI DVD's that when you see all these AE86 drifters they all seem to break there driveshafts very easy. Is that the same there or is that only becuase they are running insane HP and are thrashing the shit out of them?
Also, they seem to be pretty hard to find, so are parts very hard to find?

Cheers
