Our work horse ute recently died in the ass in a pretty bad way (head gasket blew and engine seized / melted :x ) How ever apart from that is in good nick in all other areas.

Its a '97 mazda bravo tray back.

My question is.......would this make a descent project for a mini truck?

I've always thought they were pretty kick ass but never thought about building one nor am I that clued up about how to go about it. I think they are going to get rid of it cheap, I asked today and was told around $5000 and said how 'bout $2000 laugh.gif .

Are there as many (if any) aftermarket parts for these as rodeos and hilux's. I realise its a tray back but I think it could still work.

And obviously with a fuked engine I have an excuse to put something sweet in its place.....

Anyway any feed back would be appreciated.

Man I would say it comes down to personal preference. I don't own a mini truck but I have seen them around and yeah I reckon if you do the right things to them they look totally mad.

Take a look at the ute... I'm not sure exactly what a Bravo looks like but basically what are you going to do ... lower it ? Maybe a custom front bar with a front mount if you get a turbo engine (which im assuming you will)

Try to imagine what it will look like when you have finished fucking with it and let that point you in whatever direction it points you in.

Are you going to be happy with it or will you always wish youd done it to a hilux or rodeo or something else.

Its ALLLLL personal preference man. The whole car game is personal preference wink.gif

thats a good point, I have had my eye on it since it been sitting in the workshop collecting dust and think that its got some good potential. Its just that I haven't seen many bravos on the street (done up that is) and thought there may be reasons for that.

It would be lowered, wheels, get all the plastic shit replaced on the body with crome, loose the tray sides and get the thing sand blasted and powder coated (its already got a checker plate surface) and go from there. As for an engine (more than likley turbo.....who am i kidding it will be) there are so many possibilities....

MINI TRUC K!

ok if u are going to do one up this is what i reckon IMO.

U find ya self a SR20 Det engine, drop that in,

2 get ya self a nice set of wheels say a set of 18 inch

3 find a styleside for it pay extra for it if its in good nick, kauze u will spend prolly more if u get a dunnga.

4 lower it , now there is 2 avenues we can go here

1. AIRBAGS <--- start at 5000 and go up

2 or lowering blocks .

then the paint,.

if u want any spec detaisl pm me , or ask either lux fella or cruisn jake they are mini truckers biggrin.gif oi jake u got any fotos of ya mini i wanna have a look hey biggrin.gif

peace daniel

Thats one VERY good reason to do it. Even better if its turboed, its hard these days to be the first in the car world.

SR would of been my engine of choice. Or maybe I could shoe horn in a 1JZ (in a ute SWEET tongue.gif ) I'll see what they end up wanting for it. The only 2 thingz holding me back is the lack of folding stuff and the fact that I only just got my 180 which I have already started getting into. But even still wether I go for now or not I always have my next project up my sleeve!

AAAAAaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhh too many ideas, thats dangerous

Personally I think it'd be a great idea to have that as a project. Just make sure you keep it registered, and when your finished, take it into QLD transport, and have the engine numbers changed. Odds are they'll never notice the different engine, even with NISSAN plastered on it.

With a cool paint job, lowered, mags, polished wooden tray....mmmmm the mind boggles at the possibilities!
