What on earth is this??

Just discovered some strange looking liquid on the battery terminals this evening. It's not crusty or white, rather a wet looking yellow liquid. Never seen this before. Any ideas what this is?? Is it corrosion?? The liquid is even under the terminal where the positive cap is. I'm abit concerned if it's safe or not. Hope it's not leaking acid or something. Anybody seen this before??

I have seen similar stuff, not sure if its the same, that was actually an anti corrosion to stop build up on them

It dosent seem to be leaking as its on top of the battery posts as well. Unless you smeared it taking the caps off. Low maintence battery too shouldnt ever leak... As for what it is no idea

I don't think it's come out of the battery. Did it just appear or has it been there for a while? Maybe when you put a new battery in, they sprayed some non-corrosive crap over it, and it took you a while to notice.

was this definatly not there when you first purchased the vehicle? most new cars come with sealant sprayed on both the positive and negative terminals to prevent corrosion when terminlas come lose and vibrate

It was definitely not there when the car was new. It was serviced recently though, but I didn't notice if that yellow stuff was there or not before or after the service. sad.gif

I wouldn't stress if I was you smile.gif I think you will find that they put on this anti corrosive yellow stuff when you had your last service done thumbsup.gif

yeah probably you can just call up where you had your car serviced and ask about the procedure, if that fails there's only one thing left - TASTE TEST tongue.gif (this not actually recommended as you may get sick or dead if you try it sad.gif )
good luck sorting it out though thumbsup.gif
