hey

im lil doyle and ive just bought a 1983 280zx and it has a really bad patch of rust on the rear right of the car just above the wheel base if any1 knows how to help me cause im a newbie at the whole car thing plz do

erm.. proberly cheapest to go to the wreckers and buy a new panel of whatever it is that is rusted. :?

depends how bad the rust is, and how cheap you can get the panel.... id more then likely try get the rust removed if it is small cuz if you look for another panel it wont match the color of the car, especially if its 20yrs old and been sittin in a wreckers for 19yrs..

i own a 280zx (81) and good luck finding one at the wreckers that isnt rusted or dented. its almost impossible and they are a huge panel and hard to change because the quarter has to be cut from the roof. best bet is to get the rust repaired thats what i have had done with mine. they are renowed to rust and they usually all rust in the same spots. but good luck.

Sounds like you'll need to cut out the rust, bog it up, sand it back then paint the area if your not fushed on the colours not matching, or just respray the whoel car while your at it. Its a good excuse to get the car painted.

The car is a 2 door coupe. You wont be able to buy a panel to fit.



You have two options, if the rust is spread over a large area the only real option is to cut the offending metal out and weld (either spot or mig) a new piece of galvinised metal sheeting. The fill and sand back to form the body shape.



If it isnt spread all over the place, you can knock the rust out, treat it. Use some guaze (if it is big enough) and fill the hole.



Since you said your new to this, it might be an idea to start looking for quotes.

maybe look at gettting the car sand blasted!

just another excuse to fully restore the car! biggrin.gif
