i crawled home from kingscliffe last night going as slow as 20km/h along the highway coz my car wouldnt go.

it was like there was no fuel getting thru to the motor, it would go then it wouldnt accelerate then it would go again

and if i was stopped it would conk out

it was like i was bunny hopping up the road at times, but my foot was only just resting on the accelerator

when i got home tho the revs when i stopped went up to about 1600rpm????

and sat there for about a minute

the car doesnt appear to make any noises

i had to use a shit normal unleaded fuel from a place on my way to yamba

anyone have any idea what this could be???

I'd rather be driving ya mum!!

Try changing your fuel pump, this has happened to me before in my rx3, give that a go,try replacing the easy stuff first.

I put my money on your airflow meter being faulty, you might need to get it replaced. Has it happened before? or only last night?

Yeah that might just be it, my mate had the same prob, the connector was lose, then it fell out and the car stopped.

it used to happen only a little bit when it was cold

or maybe if i had the air con on but nothing that i took any notice of coz it was so insignificant

i dont really want to drive the car thru traffic what should i do???

It's the AFM for sure, your local nissan dealership will be able to replace it......if there are no decent guys around your area that is.

Actully holdenbeater it is a bit more complex then that concidering these thing can cost over $1000 it aint a basic peice of machinery!!! there are hot wire and if they get damaged it wont work properly etc. but you would test it with a MULTIMETER and it will put out a variable voltage depending on airflow obviously. but if you look in a tuning manual it will say what to do with the diagonostic link so you can tell where the problem is!!!! i think the skylines have the little LEDS on the ECU that blink different sequences for different problems not sure but

bugger

that doesnt sound to good aye

well im now fucked if i know what im looking for so i better take it to someone that knows a bit

can it damage the car driving it like this????

does anyone have any suggestions to get this working for as little money possible???

blown13b

call racq and get it diagnosed by them!!!! some of them are pretty intune belive it or not. but at least you aint payin them

ohhh once i saw on a landcruiser the tube between the inlet and the air filter had a small crack in it which caused it run like shit and if you open the crack up it just dies.

so remember between the AFM and the inlet it must be air tight to run!!!

but yah get it properly diagnosed before you jump in!!!

blown13b
Post #17

yah well there is a bit too afm's

but yeah that sucks when its fine one time and not the other but yah just check you computer codes to see if it says anything is wrong and it will point you in the direction

AHH32
Post #18

so just take it to a mechanic and see what they say???

how do i check the computer codes???

i hate cars

well when they r playing up i do!!!!

blown13b
Post #19

i aint sure how you do it on skylines but my guess is

1 find the computer

2 there might be a button on it to find the codes

3 press it and watch the little light (it will blink etc like for eg. blink blink blink might mean air temp faulty)

but this is just my guess as this is how it is in VL commodores but yeah take it to a good mechanic and just ask there advice!!!

Take your car to gavin woods... Ergh enough plugs damnit smile.gif

Uhm Erin (nismogirl) has the URL for a couple of REALLY good links for skylines, along with how to get error codes from ECU and what they mean etc.

AFM is easy to test, when its fucking up, unplug it and see if anything changes. Theoretically it should run bulk amounts of rich with it unplugged. If nothing changes, prolly thats ya problem.

Check connections, they are easy to find just look for a box with wires on it near your air filter (or right next to your pod if you got a pod filter) thats stuck on the side of your intake pipe. Mainly they are just plastic plugs that can only plug into one place so if you see one thats fallen out, just keep poking it in holes until it fits. Same rules apply for trying to have a baby.

Anyway, Bumhead can you post the URLS to those skyline books? Or copy them into webspace and give a link? They really are handy smile.gif

Or unpluging it might just stop it from going at all...

Not usually.

Most AFM's (R33 and E5T does this) just run the richest possible fuel map when it loses signal from AFM.

Some do cut ignition but I dunno any of the top of my head smile.gif

http://www.powerlink.co.nz/~graeme/faq/ <--- That is one... to get your car into full diagnostics mode is hard!

Thats really the only one I have. If you haven't, register with www.skylinesaustralia.com . Some people in there know what they are talking about.

But that kinda happened to my friends car (an R32) it wouldn't rev. His AFM wasn't plugged in properly. Just make sure it is plugged in properly.
