Post #1 post 20th December 2002 - 06:51 PM
Im having troubles with trying to boost anything over 9/10psi, I dont think its pinging but somethings def wrong. Sounds like it could be a fuel pump problem or im wondering if its some fuel/boost cut ? has anyone had this happen to them or heard anything about it?

Ive got a FMIC so temperatures shouldnt be a problem. It was doing the same thing before I had it fitted, i was hoping this would fix the problem, but no luck.

thanks in advance for any help sad.gif

If you still got a small exhaust you might not be able to get higher than 10psi, but I wouldnt have thought it was a problem to that extent.

You got a bleed valve or boost controller?

We got a 33 that only runs 11psi (you dont wanna go higher because 14psi is the "magic figure" where your turbo impeller decides to seperate from the shaft) and it spikes fairly regularly to 13 or even 14.

Mebbe your turbos rooted?

33's sure dont have boost or fuel cut.

yeah i have a 3" exhaust and 2 stage boost controller

i wont be running it anymore then 14 psi when i get it there...

think i just need a new fuel pump.

thanks anyway

Yes they have fuel cut.

Anything above 12psi will give you some problems, because of factory management.

I assume you have a turbosmart 2 stage?

Mines running one with 3" Turbo back with high flow.

A fuel cut defender will let you run it above 12psi but your risking the stock turbo.

I have notice and read that these type of boost controllers are never perfect and you will get drops and spikes depending on temp/airflow/revs/speed.

I have tested mine at Willowbank at many different settings and have found 8-10-lowboost and 12 high is about the best way.

yeah but i dont think its a fuel cut, its not that that hard and sudden, its more like a few pops out the exhaust and the car slows down rather then speeds up.

plus I cant even run 12 psi on it, even 9 it does it slightly, but the more boost the worse it is.

I was thinking about running some injector cleaner shit though it, but ive heard of other people doin it and their cars idling real high and rough afterwards

Now not trying to state the bleeding obvious, but have you gone and seen a mechanic about it?

Gavin Woods Autotech at labrodor smile.gif

They'll fix it, no worries. Bunch of champions.

Another thing, maybe just the fuel filter? Our 33 had fuel problems but it was just the filter being so clogged from running optimax and "cleaning" all the junk out of the fuel tank from sitting around in japan for so long.

yeah cams, the guy that did my cooler has sussed it out, ive taken it to a few of the well known places around my area but they just try bullshit me.

Yeah we found that with pretty much every mechanic we went to. None of them had a fucken clue. Finally got onto <plug> Gavin Woods </plug> and he's been a chap ever since. We sent heaps of skylines (32/33's) his way and all have been happy.

Did I mention gavin woods?

(and no I dont get a discount for pluggin his bussiness contiously, but I did save $3-45 because they didnt have change so they rounded it down, heh)

heh.

nah this guy is switched on. hes building a datto ute (another one) and custom fabricating everything himself, aiming for low 10's / high 9's, knows what hes doing.

and hes not greedy or stupidly overpriced, so im happy with him at the moment.
