G'day i have a 1992 Honda Prelude that has a weird problem in 2nd gear.
When i go into second it makes a weird wiiirrrrring, winding kinda noise and ocasionly comes out of gear.
My question is what is hapening with my box, will it be expensive 2 fix or should i get a reco box???
I have no money atm so i'm hoping that driving around like this wont kill me.
If any one has had the same problems please feel free to pm me and tell me what you did 2 fix it.
Cheers.

sounds like the gearbox is shagged or on its way.

your best and cheapest option is
go get a secondhand gearbox from the wreckers. it will set you back maybe a few hundred bucks, install it yourself
or pickup a reco'd one for a bit more

not worth rebuilding a box in such an older style car. full rebuilt gearbox is worth as much as the car probably.

Thanks for the info. I've got a dirt driveway and a set of car ramps so it'll be good fun. Any tips on getting the box out?? Will it come out with out taking most of the car apart???

Taking out the gearbox will require be bit of work mate... I suppose taking it out from the cabin might be the easiest option, but you will still need to remove lot of interior things and need some sorta hoist system for the gearbox..

I am not too sure on the details on the prelude models..

Try this PDF... it's 92-96 4th gen Prelude Service Manual (33mbs)
