currently rebuilding an engine... a while ago a mate told me about boring an engine out...?
changing the bottom end or somethin to bore it out to a bigger engine capacity??
anyone know much about it??

when u bore u ut goes from say 1600cc to 1700cc for example but ull need bigger piston imo stroke it, bore it 30 though, get 20 off head, stiffer valves and get the out let chambers ported on the head with extractor n a custom intake n a ecu ull b set

re shapping will take 15 though u can bore it further with out strokin but i would do head work first n nigger low comp pistons. do not fet heavier valves with out bigge cam or injector n hi vol oil pump would be good. if u want pm me i could suggest few things

nigger low comp pistons.

Are these a new invention?

The DC2R B18C engine does not take much to weaken the block strength if you bore it out too much. Get the block inspected to see how much the bad bore needs to be machined and get all of the bores machined to that size. 40 thou is about the limit from memory without fitting a set of sleeves(expensive option)

Getting the right size pistons will also be crucial.

Other option is to get a B20 block and make it a 2L engine wink.gif Not easy but could be cheaper than rebuilding your current motor.

If you change the bore size you will need to get a head gasket and pistons to suit. It's not worth boring to the point that you need sleaves if you arent going to do further work to the engine imo. A B20 conversion is definately the more cost effective solution as iamhappy26 said if it leads down that path. If you are planning on boring it out, talk to the guys at Toda if you're after a larger diameter metal head gasket.

Big issue with boring engines is clearance - dont want to weaken the metal between cylinders, or between the cylinders and water galleries etc. You can bore them out then have the cylinders sleeved with a tougher material but is expensive.

For the amount of cost and effort involved in boring an engine to increase capacity, there is typically a cheaper and more effective way, unless you have a specific built engine combo already and manage to score a cylinder or something and just want it repaired really...

So if there is a bigger engine to jump to easily - do it. If you are already running the larger of the available transplants, and a re stiull chasing more cubes, then you might look at doing it. Til then, there are cheaper more effective ways of getting power.
