i got a kicker slim behind my hilux back seat, and its powered by a boss audio mono, from what i gather these amps are "hand grenades" and are the worst thing i could do to my sub laugh.gif

just wondering, will putting a "better" amp in make my sub sound better/louder etc ??
and whats so bad about boss lol

Boss catch on fire. pure and simple,
Poor shoody factory standards. There have been a few times people have pulled ovr after smelling smoke and then see their amp pouring out smoke

Simple, they are the Kia of amps. Cheap shit pushed by shitty retailers (Strathfield).

do they sound shit also ?

or is it just the whole fire thing laugh.gif

The fire thing is well documented. Plus, if you gotta buy one, you gotta deal with a Strathfiel salesman. I'd rather die in a Boss Amp fire.

most of the time, get brand name, and you cant go wrong.... quality over "alleged" specs
dont bother with shit brands that are 2487348ty billion watts.

Kicker, Pioneer, Alpine, RF, Clarion etc should see you satisfied.

And moved to Car Audio.

The reason we have that section is to filter out the crap, of which is already apparent. Waiting half an hour is hardly enough to say "nobody looks in there"

rookie arent those knew DD's 12" (cant remember the model like 9510 or seomthing) good for like 180Db's? they are the loudest SPL subs atm?. So if he had a 10" this might be possible, although chances are that its not going to happen running it with some shit option amp lol biggrin.gif

Let's just say that seeing as Db Barina only managed 157.8db with 2 x DD 18" woofers and 4 x DD M3s (which produce 9600wrms worth of power) in their walled Civic, he's full of crap.

ah maybe the 99xxZ woofers which start around $5700 each running off Z2's which would be around the same price

i havent heard much about SPL lately but i think in Aus we are only around 163-165db

I call BS on that - and i SELL option audio. Its ok gear, but it aint nowhere near that good.

Yes, boss are not a great brand really. You can luck out and get a good one, but not often. At the end of the day, if youre gonna pay peanuts, youll get monkeys.

Alpine are overpriced - good gear, but not as good as the price would lead you to believe. You can buy a $500 alpine amp or sub, and it will be a great bit of gear, but you will get the same quality for $300 or so with any number of other brands. They are the Jaguar Cars of audio gear.

Theres a lot more to making SPL than just the sub and amp combo - a lot of it is the car and how well it is setup. Pretty easy to make good gear work like shit if its installed in a less than ideal manner. By the same token, if you can only afford cheap gear, you can do a lot with your install to make the most of it.

Couldn't agree more..
jaycar amps are good if you want a budget amp thats still decent. Much better than many that are far more expensive..
