Hey guys, recently I've swapped out my motor in my 2005 vz v6 crewman, 6 speed manual. When I ordered the motor I made it very clear to the supplier that I needed a 10HBB motor as that's what was in there already. New motor rocked up and it was a 10HBA motor. I rang and explained they had sent the wrong motor but they were pretty certain it should drop in and run fine.
I read some forums and people had swapped out the HBH motor for HBA and vice versa, but couldn't find much about the HBB.
Both motors are only running the cam actuators and intake cam sensors, no exhaust cam sensors. I haven't pulled the valve covers off to check part numbers of the actuators as I know if they are different it can cause engine issues down the track due to computer timing.

Once the new motor fitted, when I click to accessories and let it do it's check, it comes up with "service vehicle soon" and won't crank. As others may no, "service vehicle soon" when displayed on a holden dash always means there's an electrical issue and it needs to go to the dealer. Engine light is emission issues. I wouldn't know if the engine light goes away as the car does not start. If I turn the key all the way off, and go straight to crank, it will crank, but not fire. This is due to the immobiliser not having enough time to recognise there's an issue, so it'll let me crank.

Anywho, I didn't bother changing looms as all plugs where the same, I didn't go as far as making sure all the pins in the plugs were orientated in the same places.

So my main question is, has anyone ever swapped out their HBB vz motor for the HBA, if so, did it work?

My appoligies to anyone who may read this in the future. Car wouldn't start due to my own stupidity haha.
As it turns out, As I was writing this questions, I couldn't remember if I had plugged in the ECU plug. Vz's only have theone main plug and that's it. Although it's 2am in the morning, I thought I'd better go check Haha.
And yea turns out I hadn't done so. Plugged it in, car started first click. Runs fine, does have a power train code but I think that's due to not having the oxygen sensors plugged in as the exhaust isn't fitted yet. Also the airflow meter is plugged in but just hanging off to the side, haven't got the joiner tube hooked up yet. So once the cars completely back together I'll report back for everyone in the future that may wanna know more about swapping the motors out.

I'm just friggen glad this was one of my own cars and not a customers car šŸ˜‚
For anyone wondering. I own my own workshop here in my home town. While it is embarrassing, just remember, we all make mistakes haha šŸ‘šŸ»

So as it turns out, car runs and drives 100% fine. Doesn't have any warning alarms or bells going off at all.
So I can clarify that if you have a 10HBB motor you can 100% swap it with a 10HBA motor. Obviously I changed be engine computer that bolts to the front of the motor, but I did not change the engine loom. Removed the original engine loom with the old motor and fitted the new motor with the loom that the new motor came with, no issues.
Only other issue I had was someone removed the earth wire for number 1, 3 and 5 coilpacks. So ran like a bitch and kept pulling coil pack codes to start with, but sorted that out and all was good.

Hey mate, what exactly did you do in order for the 10hba engine swap to work with a manual gear box?
Iā€™m finding it impossible to find a 10hbb engine to replace my 10hbb engine, what do I need to do for it to work if I replace it with a 10hba engine?
